Why recode before downsample?

I have a question to the scene. How come SVCD/DivX/VCD-DvdRips releases slipping out before the actual DVD-R? After all aren't those made from the DVD to begin with? Why bother with the reencoded crap when most people are waiting for the real thing?

From what I understand the thing on the gaming scene is to be first with the real cracked thing, anyting after that is nuked. I know that some people have no clue how to reencode a movie, but is that knowledge realy something worth getting a group credit for? Isn't the trick getting the DVD release before anyone else?

On that note, why in the world even muck around with SVCD and DivX? If people want lame quality let them reencode it to whatever crapy format themselves. But with that said, I still wonder how the egg can come before the chicken...

Get it out first = win Race.

700 / 1.4gig = quicker to upload than 4gig

and also for protective issues.

the groups that release xvid and svcd and dvdr are very close to each other, mostly only another name.

So they do it for protective reasons. When they do the Xvid/svcd first
no one can reencode the dvdr and release it as xvid /svcd Very Happy

The Win Race I can understand. But if the groups have such slow lines that reencoding and uploading is faster then downsampling and uploading then I guess they should reconsider working that particular field. But I guess thats not the real reason Smile

But why not make the Avi/Mpg scene a bit more competitive and fruitfull for all... Best quality wins!

DVD-R release = Race Win
Best Quality on fixed size = Reencode win

This would make it all more interesting seeing as how most reencodes today have room for improvement. The scene obviously needs a new challenge...

Best I have seen so far was a friend who fiddled with Deep Blue Sea for a week, stuck it on one 700Mb CD and I'll be damned if I can see any difference between that and the DVD. Sure the sound had to be 2ch, but still.

Actually if the scene is real good, and they know how to rip, the DIVX/XVID can be as good as the real DVD.
I like MPEG4 more cause u can put like 6 movies on 1 dvd and watch them on ur tv Smile (DIVX PLAYER)

About Hitman: Movie (2007)
Vin Diesel is a hardcore gamer, and absolutely loves the Hitman series. For that reason I have faith that he wont destroy the movie.

Response: Well, Uwe Boll probably loved the Alone in the Dark games.

Steve-O 2004, I think it was DivX seeing has he did it back when DBS was just released on DVD about 4 years back. Dunno if XviD had any wide spread support or was even invented back then.

I do know everything else I got my hands on back then was dual discs.

Xvid = better than dvdr-r for me to, and if u check out torrent sites more people most times even more than double are leeching the xvid rather than the dvd-r.

Johnblack....then i guess my theory about SVCD being fazed out is right then....and that F*****G SUCKS!!! Sad

My DVD player can only play SVCD and i have SERIOUS trouble with trying to recode the Xvid format (or burn directly) to SVCD!.

It really sucks that most torrent sites don't have SVCD releases anymore, it's always Xvid, or DVD-R. Sad

Story of my life i guess.....

ok realize the fact that DVDR aint an old school thing.. bearly few years old.. Divx and now XViD been around for way longer.. same with SVCD..

grps usually do XViD and SVCD first so no other grp can just grab the dvdr and release their svcd/xvid as their own.. trust me when i say.. a lot of grps wouldnt be in scene.. if it wasnt for that.. they have none or shitty sources.. and re-encoding from untouched dvdrs is all they are capable of..

which a lot of the big dogs in the movie scene find annoying.. cuz some grps re-encode dvdr of that particular grp.. and than proper with some lame ass reason.. just to get a realease out

most grps have divisions.. couple i can think of are..

DMT(XViD) and FLiX (SVCD)
DVL (XViD) and BooZerS (SVCD/DVDR)
DvP (XViD) and AURA (SVCD/DVDR)
DiAMOND (XViD), Chakra (SVCD) and Replica (DVDR)

so when u have a untouched dvdr pred first.. and than in next couple hrs.. some unknown shitty grps that are probably classic grps.. or brand new.. come up with the release.. means one thing.. they just grabbed the dvdr.. put it on remote.. encoded it.. and released it as their own

most recent occasion i can think of

original:
Napoleon.Dynamite.WS.DVDSCR.DVDR-EXT

re-encode from original:

Napoleon.Dynamite.WS.DVDSCREENER.SVCD-SCREAM
Napoleon.Dynamite.WS.DVDSCR.XviD-WESTSIDE
Napoleon.Dynamite.SIZEFIX.WS.DVDSCR.XviD-EASTSIDE
Napoleon.Dynamite.2004.PROPER.DVDSCR.XViD-TWiST

and i do know this for fact.. im not making names up or anything..

quite frankly.. this is how low the scene has come..
