Ok. Crysis has caused me to decide to spring for an extra video card.
I currently own 1 Nvidia 8800 GTX card.

Yeah i know, the prices will probly drop more soon... but I have the money and it isn't a problem for me.

Anyway, so i know jack didly about SLI to be truthful.

I currently have this exact model of GFX card:
EVGA 768-P2-N835-AR e-GeForce 8800 GTX

I want to stick one of the saem type in SLI mode, but the place I like to order from has this one:
EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800 GTX 768MB GDDR3 PCI Express Video Card

i have no clue what the differences are between my card and this card.
Will they work together?

Apparently i have the superclocked edition.
Guess that one at Zipzoom is slower then. Hmm...

And why the hell has this card INCREASED in price? I got mine for like 529 bucks and now... they are even more expensive. Wierd.

guess it depends on where you buy it from. but ya, I'd stick to getting the same model you had already bought. Also i'd wait a bit longer anyways since the 8800's are being revised using the new chip structure so you'll get better performance with that 1 new card than you will with any SLI gimimick gains.

SLI pays off when you are playing on high resolutions with full AA. If not, then you will see a fraction of improvement. Preferably something like 1900x1200 and beyond.

Um so you are buying another GTX for one game? A game that has the potential to perform better with drivers/patches? A game that also as of now does not scale well if at all with SLi?

How about you hold your horses until something powerful enough to satisfy your Crysis needs comes out, rather then doubling your heat, power, compatibilty issues and reducing space.

Waste of money in my opinion.

BUT, I believe that card would work fine with your current one, as the numbers denote the revision and batch? Otherwise it's the same card besides clock speeds?

9 series geforces are supposed to be out Q1 of 2008 as well so save your pennies for that.

Spykez is right.

I would also suggest you simply play with less than max details or lower the resolution and keep your gtx for now.

You have to keep in mind that SLI doesn't work in all games, and the performance increase is sometimes not as great as it should be.

Chances are, the next generation of nvidia cards will be almost twice as fast as the 8800 GTX anyway, but without the compatibility problems of SLI, and they will feature direct x 10.1 which may or may not be useful, but it's a plus.

If you ask me, SLI is not a good idea as an upgrade path. If you're going to get SLI you should either get it right away when you upgrade your GPU, or not at all, because by the time it's worth getting a second GPU, the next generation is already out or not far off and it's not worth it anymore.

If you're set on getting SLI though, then yes, that card should definitely work. Basically any 8800 GTX should work, they don't even have to be from the same mafucaturer anymore as far as I know.

I'd wait until January and get a 8800 GX2, even if you have the money now.
