|
 |
I have recnetly changed bank accounts and never gave much thought how it would effect my newsgroup access until i realised newshosting wont accept solo cards as payment!!!
So i have been looking around and found giganews accepts solo but want to charge me £16 a month!!!!!
Is there any decent u.k usenet providers (as they are most likely to accept solo) or a provider i can pay with paypal or something!!!
thanks
edit: lol why do i always find something straight after i ask for help!!!

anyone used newsdemon at all?? looks pretty good to me!

so i bit the bullet and went for newsdemon!
It would be pretty good if it actually worked on the alternate ports they specified as working.. but it dosent!!! and my fucking isp disconnects my internet if i use it on the standard 119/443 ports every minute or so.
Support is pretty shitty aswell all they kept saying was keep trying and it will work... then they said my account has been reset and it will work fine now.... but it dosent...

If you're downloading all this stuff wouldn't your isp (bt in my case) throw up a cap on your download speeds?

thought i would add a little update.
Recently changed dsl provider from freedom2surf to be, seems like the problems were down to freedom2surf even though they said it wasnt.
Still have trouble getting newsdemon running on any ports besides the standard 119, 443 but that dosent matter as be dont care.
seem to get a steady 1250 kb/s from newsdemon all the time which is about the max of my connection.

Just figured I'd bump this topic to let anyone interested know ...
Quote: | Newshosting Increasing Retention to 250 Days, Expanding Member Benefits
January 1, 2009 -- Newshosting announced today a massive increase in Usenet newsgroup storage capacity to an unprecedented 250 days of binary retention. Newshosting also announced expanded member benefits for Newshosting Unlimited and Newshosting Lite plan members.
Retention for NHXL and Newshosting Lite plan members is currently 150 days and will be growing day by day to a full 250 days. Retention for Newshosting Unlimited members has already grown beyond the promised 110 days and will continue to grow to a full 250 days. All existing Newshosting members will automatically have access to this increased retention without any increase in price or changes to their newsreader configuration.
Expanded benefits for Newshosting Unlimited and Newshosting Lite members are also provided without any increase in price. The Newshosting Unlimited plan has increased simultaneous connections by 50% to 12 connections. The Newshosting Lite plan is doubling members' download allotment to 20 gigabytes per month.
With 250 days of retention and expanded plan benefits, Newshosting continues to be the leading, premier Usenet newsgroup provider to watch in 2009. |

$14.95 USD / ~11 € / ~10 £ is pretty good for unlimited usenet access with (shortly) 250 days retention. It used to be 60 days for the same price.
I use them and never have a problem with completion and max out my 5 mbit line.

I just switched back to Newshosting myself. Soon to be the exact same retention as Giganews for HALF the price!

yeah, and just to clarify as well, they are currently at about 120 days, but not losing any retention.
it will be another 130 days before they reach 250.

You get what you pay for and with Giganews you get top-notch usenet access. If you have a fast connection (I've got 100/20) it's almost a must to get full speed.
