Ok here is the deal. One of my oldest colleagues got fired today, hes 55 and started as a clay modeler half a year before me in the company (clay modeler= Models Car Design Models for us Designers, its a special type of clay that is used in our business to sculpt and shape cars in etc....just for the ppl that dont know what it is)
He turned in to a sort a "do it all man"...like we would need material, he would order it, we would need something shipped to Japan or what have you, he would arrange that etc.
Anyhow...Due to hes tasks in the company he did a lot of networking to vendors and what have you. It turns out hes been getting SMALL!!!! backhanders here and there. He also let hes son use our SUPER SECRET! storage to store hes Motor bike in. Stupid? yes, but still.
They let him off with a pay cut and taking back hes company car...still keeping hes job. What does he do?...here is the sad part. he ordered an ENGINE for a friend using the company order system (yes its way cheaper) guess what...they found out, the Company that is...again....stupid?...Hell YES!, but still
Oh well there it is, the guy was told today hes fired, and he will pick up hes stuff on Monday and hes out....oh yea, the company car he has to leave...so I guess they will order him a Taxi.
He will probably topple him self, as hes wife don't work, and who will hire a guy like that...at least for the money we payed him...

I wonder how much business he's brought into the company. Seems that the company has cut its nose off to spite its face.
Shocking! Wish him well from me.

Sad to hear. I guess hopefully they will realize they have made a mistake when the business isnt running like it used to. Perhaps they will take him on again in the future. You could perhaps organize a petition and get your whole office to sign it, offer your forgiveness and such. Who knows it might work.

Well, I talked to one of the guys in the works council (we dont have a union as such) hes also a clay modeler, he said that the guy will go to court...I dont know if that will bring anything, but hell, he has nothing to lose. And you are 100% right, it will take time to get someone new in and get all those vendor contacts back etc. DAM!...the guy also got a son in the Car Design business...other company...what the hell will he think about this whole shit.

It will be very hard to find a new job at the age of 55, especially if he got fired like that (fristlose kündigung i guess?). But he must have seen it coming after he got his first warning (Abmahnung) and kept on going.

Yeah if he's that much of an expert in his field he'll be snapped up by another company straight away.
Actually a friend of mine worked for IBM. When he left them they were so worried that he'd take his ideas somewhere else they gave him a £30k a month retainer. IE he can't work for another company for two years and they're paying him £30k a month for the pleasure.

In one way I am really peed off with him for beeing a stupid ass, and in another I am so sad...we all are in the team...
As for him to getting a new job...difficult, this business is small and tightly nit...you get my drift here I guess, basically stuff like this will get around. And he will never ever get the same money, no way. The Japanese pay pretty handsome money, I can tell you that

I guess around 4,500 euro or so, maybe 5.000 (7.332$ AFTER TAX) + all gas paid and a company car.
Xmas bonus= 1 Month extra pay + Holiday money = half a months pay...so 13,5 months pay in one year. 32 days payed Holiday etc etc.
Oh, the above would be after tax.

Its basic body design in clay. They don't do engine design work.
Not to say that its any less, its just different.

Wow, way to take advantage of his position!
BTW - what was he driving as the company car, you made it pretty obvious that him losing the car blows. It better be a M5!

Well if he pulled of that kind of stuff at work he should be warned at least. Ok you colleagues warned him, thats one part but since he didn't stop doing these things he can't be allowed to stay either.
Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

This is what our boss said "What can we do to help him more...we have no other option"
So basically he acted plain STUPID! I think the Company did this after consulting the Company Layer...and the recommendation to sack him immediately, came from them. The other thing is that he was on a sort of "probation" as the company already was gonna cut hes salary with 17% and take the car away Jan1st. So they had him under close surveillance so to speak.
Still...makes me feel really sad, as he was such a nice and STUPID guy.
