hi all,

i'm having some troubles with my new Samsung SATA2 HDD, when i plug it in, the computer recognizes it, no problems there (it's listed as the Fifth IDE Master, even when it's the only harddrive in the computer) - and i managed to install Vista on it without any problems either - BUT when i start the computer and try to boot from the HDD i get a blank screen with a blinking underscore symbol and nothing else happens... this happens just after the BIOS POST message...

i've made sure the jumpers are set to MASTER and it's the first device in the boot order...

anyone got any idea on how i might fix it?

i was told by SpykeZ that we have some hardware geniouses on the forum here, so i'm really hoping you can help me with this Very Happy

thanks in advance...

It wont boot because Boot file isnt on that disk. Its on the first ide or sata disk. The best thing to do now is to go to bios change boot disk to other one and see if it boots windows. If it doesnt simply change disks in bios until you see one that boots windows. The one that boots them is primary disk. Windows store boot file on first disk , not the one you install windows. So when you want to have boot files on install disk you need to disconnect all other disks.

Sata II drives have jumpers and only use for them is to change from SATA I to SATA II mode. My guess is he thought that jumpers are for selecting master slave channel.
