What a POS. Board says it supports DDR2 800. Bullshit!! Have tried the memories default settings. No go. Upped the voltage nothin. chaged the timings nothin this board sux. The only reason why I bought this board is cause I have 4 PATA hard drives that I want to use. My mistake. Guess I will have to get a PCI PATA card. Any ideas on a good MOBO.

Its the latest. I killed one of my hard drives in the process cause when i set the memory to 800 it would power on then power off and on and if fucked one of my 250GB.
Pisses me off cause I payed $180 USD back in February for this board.

What chipset you want for youre board? I would suggest intel chipset and asus or intel board.

Uh, Why don't you reduce the hate on a completely solid Mobo and direct it toward your ridiculous habit of collecting 20 PATA Harddrives of miniscule size? You realize almost 1 Harddrive can replace that entire mess you've put together?
Can I ask why you even have those hooked up?

What does HDD have to do with DDR2 @ 800 MHZ? His board should support DDR2 @ 800 and it doesnt. Thats the issue. I have 8 disks and everything works good.

He said the only reason he bought it is because it supports 4 PATA devices?
Not to mention when you get memory issues with a board it's 90% of the time a compatibility problem, swap the RAM out and try a different stick, which is what I think the issue is here. I was just pointing out his monster rig and it's 3 IDE harddrives.

It could be ram compatibility problem but then it could be problem with board to. What you have against IDE disks? You do know that fastest drive today cant full bandwith of ata 100 ?

There is nothing wrong with the memory. I tried it in a Intel board and it works great at 800Mhz. I can only get it to run at 667Mhz on my MSI board.

Nope same performance to the byte. Only thing that SATA has and IDE lacks is 1 channel per disk nothing more. Disks work at best around 70mb/s. It doesnt matter is it SATA or IDE.
@ edweird13 Did you update youre BIOS?

Yeah its the latest BIOS. I'll prolly ditch the MSI board and go with a P35 Chipset. Has anyone used a nForce chipset? Are they reliable?

I'm not gonna argue with you. Many times the difference between the two in inconvievable to the average person, it's still there. And it's more evident in the bigger drives.
Yeah if you've tested the memory in another rig then Mobo it is. Other then the bios nothing short of trying DIFFERENT memory will work. It's wierd that now more then every you sometimes actually have to dig around and see users feedback as to what Sticks work with what Motherboards.

After much fighting was finally able to get it to boot with 800Mhz memory w00t. I have not been happy with this board since I got it.

What is that supossed to mean. Running a EVGA 680i SLI mobo almost a year now, NO ISSUES!...
3 Hds (2xRaptors in Raid, and a WD 300Gig) all using SATA, never had even the smallest prob. And my RAM running at 1066MHz (2x533Mhz) etc etc. No idea why U slag NVs chipset there?

You are well know nvidia fanboy so i wont discus hardware with you.
Quote: | To be succinct, some nForce 680i motherboards have SATA issues. Data seems to get corrupted for no reason causing BSODs and corrupted hard drive errors. Obviously there is a reason, but the problem to the end user may seem very sporadic. The problems are severe enough that they can render a new system build useless. Talking to NVIDIA about this, we came up with the answers to a few questions, but no solutions. |
Btw i had nvidia and intel boards, i test them all the time at work so i know what i am talking about. Thats EOD for me regarding this issue.

Fair enough . I know that the 680i had a lot of probs when it was launched (personally never had any but) But I guess with all the bios and chipset driver updates, thats been sorta..fixed
If it works it works if it don't it don't, and then even I would try somet different, believe me. NV in all its glory, but as I said, I really have had no issues my end. I will check out the X48 more then likely when it comes...well that is if the 790I don't beat me to it

I have always used Intel chipsets. I was wanting to try SLI. Guess I will stick with Intel chipsets and no SLI.
