|
 |
I've got a question and I hope someone here will help me on this, with regards to Half-Life 2 Episode 2 & Steam.
I've got a legit copy of HL2, CS:S and such and Steam installed on my computer. When Episode 1 came out, unlike most folks here, I went out and bought it for $19.99cad since I thought that was reasonable (I don't buy that many games, but a couple anyway).
Now that Episode 2 is out, Valve has screwed over their customers and is forcing people like me to buy their stupid Orange Box. I've played Portal and Team Fortress 2 at a friend's house who bought Orange Box. I frankly was not impressed with the online play of TF2 so I have no use for the "legit cd-key" of TF2 to play it online since I don't intend to play it. And if I want to buy just Ep2 from Steam, it's $30, whereas Orange Box is $50. I don't want Orange Box and I don't want to pay $30 either. If it was $20 that would have been more reasonable.
Anyway, if I download Episode 2-UNLEASHED and install it and all that, is it possible for it to screw over my current Steam account and let Valve know I'm playing a non-legit copy and ban me from Steam? Hopefully someone here knows more on this.

You dont have to "install" it. You just double-click the exe and play. No steam account required, and if you're logged on to your steam account you'll be fine because the game doesnt use steam.

You do know you can buy Episode 2 separately through steam.

Ok so I'm fine if I use the UNLEASHED release? From what you said chaotic646, I understand it doesn't use Steam. I was worried because I read the nfo and it says to run it like this ***.exe -steam (and some other command arguments).

Yes, you're OK, you may need to get the crackfix though.

Of course legally purchased copies use steam, but the unleashed version doesnt require steam...like I said. I dont have a steam account, steam is not on my pc at all and it works fine. The realease uses cracked steam files that dont call home.
" Additional Notes:
No installer supplied for this release because Steam sucks.
If you really want steam garbage installed on your computer, you can
wait for some lame group to steal our steam files and write a steamified
cockjob installer for you, after all that's what most groups do nowadays.
Clone grps own all the releases ever done since crackers just steal em
and add crackfiles to it. The rest of you who want to play this game
now you can deal with winrar, since that's the best installer."
