Try VLC player? I've had issues with MPC in the past, and VLC plays almost anything out of the box regardless of codecs

Only alternative to MPC is KMPlayer imo...

You are using the latest SVN build? That's the problem right there. Get build 1489.

Have you got a link to Build 1489 please? Looking on their page and the Sourceforge site shows only the "official" builds :\

I don't think even the ones that messed it up know what's up with that. 
I follow development on the Doom9 forums, and it's a joke. Every time someone asks why is it not fixed yet, or why it's happening, the idiot snobs say "Do you see a change log that says it's fixed? No? Shut up then!"
