Quote:
Graphical improvements a key focus, and the sequel moves beyond aliens and Korean soldiers... ?

First details on Crysis 2 have found their way onto the internet in the wake of Crytek boss Cevat Yerli explaining the FPS has been designed as a trilogy.

According to a report on fansite inCrysis - via GameStar.de - Crytek lead animator Steven Bender has let slip that the developer will focus even greater attention on graphics for the sequel, a translation from German explaining, "Their ambitious aim is to push the game's visuals to an advanced level, that could be considered near photorealistic movie quality."

A tiny plot detail is additionally given - that the sequel will concentrate on more than battles with aliens and Korean military. Which, you probably would have guessed at anyway.

And that's your lot for now...

Crytek is crazy. Sure they know that graphics sells, but come on, what about gameplay? And plot.

Crysis was annoying with all the useless allies you got stuck with.

I mean, come on Psycho, you said you'd give me cover fire, WTF are you doing?

yeah after all that crap about how crytek was hyping dx10 and restricting dx9, and hyping quad core when they do nothing for the game... im starting to think all crytek is, is a joint venture formed by intel, nvidia and microsoft, to create software to push their products. i bought crysis, but i seriously doubt i will continue to support crytek... not because i think they make sure, but rather because i dont like their bullshit.

I think it's cool that they're really pushing the boundaries of visual fidelity. Someone has to do it...

Even if it doesn't run well yet even on highend hardware, it's cool to see what the future will bring.

I remember Everquest 2 when it came out... if you upped the settings to max it wouldn't run properly on any PC back then. And as a result, a year later when better hardware was out, the game's graphics were still some of the best, as people were able to increase the settings.

I think Crysis does it similarly. Even if you play only on High now (which runs fine with high-end hardware).. in a few months with the next generation of graphics cards you'll be able to run very high without any problems most likely and then it'll still look awesome, while other games that come out now will probably look average in a year, crysis will most likely still be up there with the best.

The problem here is just that people don't want to accept that their high-end 500$ graphics card can't run a game on max settings. It's just like when people complained about that Tomb Raider game and how it wouldn't run well when they turned on the "next gen" settings.

max settings in crysis just weren't made for today's hardware. Play on high and be happy, it still looks better than any other game.

And even if the game doesn't appeal to everyone, i'm sure crysis will sell well enough to warrant a sequel, and another one after that.

theres a big difference between everquest 2 and crysis, everquest 2 needs to look good still after a few years time , its an mmo they want people playing eq2 for years and years.

crysis is a single player game they couldnt care less if you bought the game and never installed it they dont gain anything from you playing it.

anyway eq2 has a stupid ammount of graphics options you could change i think more than any game ive ever played and it didnt run to bad on med end computers at the time of its release it just needed 1gb of memory minimum, alot of people at release could knock alot of the settings up to med-high and still get good fps in eq2 anyway.

Why do you think that game that allows modding will not be played many years after its made?

Same could be said of Far Cry, right? Yet no major mods came out for that. I suspect the same here, there's that much you can do with an island simulator.

Well we will see how modding will turn up. But there are many people doing work atm so lets not dismiss it yet. There might be some great stuff coming from it.

perhaps 'island simulator' is the thinking that stopped people from being interested in it?

you could make a town or a forest or a desert or an island... the whole 'sandbox' concept, in theory, is fucking brilliant and perfect for mod making, where as in every other game your limited... there is so much potential for making mods in this game...

its a pity only 1 in every 100 will be able to play em Very Happy

I think the graphics in crysis are cool. I play on medium and I'm ok with it. Sure, I would like to be able to play it on very high, but I still had fun with the game.

What I liked most about crysis (and far cry) is the level of freedom you have. You got these huge levels and you can decide where to go and how to get there. Do you attack that camp? Do you go around it? Maybe just sneak in and grab some items?

I love shooters with freedom, like crysis, far cry, or operation flashpoint, so I prefer crysis (even at medium details) over Call of Duty 4 (eventhough the sniper mission was incredible!).

I like to have choice, instead of a linear experience like it's normal in a shooter, and crysis gives me exactly that, and that it looks great while doing so is just a bonus for me Smile

so I'm looking forward to crysis 2 because it's gonna give me more of those great huge levels Smile

man i wish they would make games like hl2. that run great even on slightly older pc´s while looking good and running smooth, and have a good story/gameplay (hl2 did that perfectly)... since yea i think im one of those who have better things to waste money on than new hardware!! (like booze and... stuff for chicks so i can get into their pants... ya know the essentials, oh food and clothes too and cant forget the socks)

HL2 did not run very well even on some high end pc's.

WHAT?

hl2 ran incredibly well on mid range pc's - i know, because i had one... hands down its one of the most system friendly high-end (for its time) fps ever made.

contrast that with far cry, or doom 3, or any of the other fps games that came out around that time, and youll see just how easy on the requirements hl2 really was...

yeah i know... i think the problem was that far cry kinda went under the radar a bit... it got a nice amount of hype, but it was perhaps a little too 'exclusive' and high-end of a product, and from an unknown dev...

crysis is pretty much the same deal, but perhaps because crytek is now known, maybe that will get crysis the attention it needs for modders to take it really seriously... id sure like them too... theres so much possibility there.

Nope Smile

Anyway, I think Crysis was relativelly bug free comparing to other titles that came out recently also considering the game is much more interactive etc. What I'm really waiting is that they put some maps that were shown in the expos, but not included in the retail game. That would rock. I only hope they wont include the awesome 'windows live' idea.

I believe you. But if it runs good to you doesnt mean it runs good to everybody else.

Source games always stutter, no matter what PC you have Razz More stuttering, less stuttering, but nevertheless stuttering.

Why would anyone work his ass off making a huge mod, when only a fraction can enjoy the final product the way intended? With recent "next gen" (Rolling Eyes) engines, making a big mod (i.e. total conversion or huge gameplay changes) take so long, makers would want to go for the largest crowd possible. I think once UT3 idiot devs sort out the bugs, that will, again, turn to be the mod heavy gunner, while Crysis will be remembered as a pretty alternative. Sure, once new hardware comes, some more interest will arise, but just for a moment (just like Far Cry was when new hardware came and devs added HDR support).

You do know that mods are more than just mere maps, right?

Of course, but c'mon it was praised all around by fans, newcomers, and reviewers all around and I didnt see any stuttering complaint there.

Indeed and I saw, but still there seems to be some issues but far as Im concerned it isnt that huge of a problem for the majority.
