What do you rely on?
With recent talk of Gamespot telling it like Pinocchio I thought it would be a good idea to get a thread like this going.
My vote goes for IGN until someone points out some others I guess.

I check gamerankings and use common sense. I don't usually read the whole review as it tends to be filled with spoilers. Mostly I just read the final thoughts.
Hardware: Ryzen 3700x, B450 MSI Gaming Pro carbon AC, GTX1080, 32 GB 3200 Mhz cas 14, 256 EVO SSD, 1 TB EVO SSD and 4 TB HDD.

I'd go for genre specific webpage’s, like JustAdventure.com for adventures, wargamer.com for strategy games or rpgcodex.com for reviews and look at what people in forums say. And I stay away from reviews for hugely hyped games although wargamer still had decent review for World in Conflict.

Agreed, reviewers these days are just as easily convinced by hype like we are, there really is no substitute for finding out yourself.

Nforce is pretty reliable, if you remove all this worthless "I am downloading it now" and similar shit.

like i said, i dont rely on any game reviewers...
i just use them to see what the highlights and notable problems etc are, but ultimately i dont put a hell of a lot of faith in reviews.
like above, gamespy and ign are the only sites i go too... gamespy i like for its simple easy to use format... its not too cluttered with too much shit going on, unlike ign's...
ign i tend to go for to browse their reviews as well, but usually i put more stock in ign's reviews, because they have a side-by-side listing of THEIR review score, and player review scores and review site averages... overall this means i can figure out a more 'reasonable' and unbiased rough score that helps me decide if ill get a game or not....
ultimately i know better than to take the reviewers opinions automatically as my own. i just use a combination of ign's scores to help me decide to give the game a shot or not.

Bah, gamerankings aint good also, they are under cnet just like gamespot and they pick themselves from wich sources they take scores. Also, they convert all scores into % so you have a decent score of 3/5 converted into bad 60%, and scale 1-10 where good games get 7s, 8s is automaticaly lower than 1-100 where everything below 90 is only decent.

Every video-review I've watched from them (A LOT) has been spot on for me. Might be cause I've got the same taste as they do or something, or they're just honest and spot on. But I really trust them when I check reviews, altough, I should say, I only check 360 reviews as pc games doesn't require any burning. So I can't really speak for pc related game reviews. |
I think it also helps alot when you can see what they are actually commenting on in action. It allows you to see if their criticisms are accurate.

I think that Jericho AND Kane & Lynch got too low scores from all the major sites! Jericho should have deserved a 70%+ Rating and Kane & Lynch definitly 80%+... So I trust only myself judgement and read alot on gamespot etc, just to figure out if the game would be nice for me, not for the reviewer.

Nforce only. I rely on what the masses have to say. This site is a good indicator is a game is good/buggy/etc... or not. Sometimes I'll look at reviews if I need to find something specific, but other than that it's either this or DL.
