|
 |
Hi,
So i was just thinking, there seems to be a really massive lack of good first person shooters. I'm not talking about the alien this alien that crap - yes, we've all got used to halo 3, killzone, etc.
But what I feel is lacking is a first person genre that you do missions in - like Mission Impossible and Goldeneye on the N64. These kind of games weren't set in the future, with alien creatures and far away planets, but in general normal environments.
Do I make sense? I don't know how to describe it - there don't seem to be any good "goal based" FPS games about these days.
Bring back Goldeneye / Mission Impossible esc. games!!!!!!!
Or have I missed them?

With the "open world" hysteria that has taken over the market, I doubt we'll see many shooters in that category.

FarCry2 is like the only open world FPS in years, so what "open world" hysteria are you talking about?

I'm just taking about shooters based in offices, not alien worlds. And shooters whereby instead of killing a 1000000 foot alien boss as an objective, you have to collect papers / spy on someone / destroy computers etc.
I'm saying, they need to take a step back from the alien themes, and bring it back to life again. A bit more realism in FPS couldn't be a bad thing.

I know this is console section but you should play NOLF1 and 2 (No One Lives Forever). They are old games and should run on any computer without probs.

What about things like Rainbow 6 Vegas 1 & 2?
And COD4 modern warfare.

NOLF - loved it and played them both.
Rainbox 6 Vegas - played them, liked them, but done.
Same thing with COD4.
All i'm saying is there is not much to look forward to that falls into this category!

You're right to be honest. Seems to be a neglected area which is a shame.
I'm not a fan of fighting aliens, can't quite relate to it and normally gets a reaction of "oh....another alien invasion?"

I guess you've got Operation Flashpoint 2 coming.
Can't think of anything else though

i think quantum of solace would be right up her alley. If you liked the rainbow series there's no reason to not like quantum of solace. No, it's not GOTY material and it has its' flaws but so does every game.

i loved quantum of solace and NOLF, so you could give it a try. it's short, it's easy, but i had a lot of fun with it. i totaly agree with you too. i'm sick of shooting aliens, zombies and other monsters that can take 4 rpgs and 5000 bullets. at least on humans a heashot usually does the trick

I loved playing Project IGI at the time. It fits perfectly in the kind of game you´re talking.

don't forget velvet assassin! hopefully there will be a release in the next day or two.
"Velvet Assassin brings players into the world of Violette Summer, a British secret agent behind enemy lines in multiple hot-spots during World War II. Players are introduced to a bed-ridden Violette as she slips in and out of fevered dreams, reliving her most poignant missions through her memories. With no outside support, Violette must sneak her way into heavily guarded Nazi strongholds, assassinate high-level targets and even deliver cyanide to fellow operatives caught in the field. Using true-to-life weapons and tactics, Violette is one of the few people standing between the Nazi war machine and total domination. Velvet Assassin asks players to focus on the reality behind these clandestine acts, with no technological marvels, no special weapons, just your wits and the equipment on hand."

Even tho IGI/2 are Norwegian games, I didn't think they where _that_ awesome. First FPS game with that kind of freedom if I remember right and the gfx was pretty decent for its time, but the AI really sucked.

I played it two months ago and it was a torture! Simply awful. I still don't know how I managed to finish it.

Well I just read about velvet assassin and it looks promising. But it could also be epic fail. Fingers crossed for a release today.
