Anyone know of any games similar to JA being developed at the moment?

The IP was bought a few weeks ago by a german company who plans to create a new jagged alliance, only updated to 2010 "standards" whatever that means
And no there won't be a console version.
I still play JA2 with the 1.13 update, it's very good.

Well, there's few Jagged Allianceish games available currently, if you want to play something while waiting for this. Such as;
Hired Guns
7.42 High Caliber
err... Jagged Brigade?
Esp. hired guns is a lot like JA, but yea... these are all Russian games with no English support whatsoever (games are in English but patches are made for Russian versions only) and they're quite buggy...

I'd like to know this too. I really miss games like jagged alliance and silent storm. there's been those 2 or 3 russian games that were kinda similar but were just plain bad.. you can't really count those. |
I don't understand why no games are made in this genre, they are so popular.

Perhaps they could be the bad guys in the new JA3?

"The German publisher bitComposer Games has secured the full rights to the license from Strategy First, and will publish this famous strategy brand with roleplay elements worldwide. The aim is to preserve the popular basic concept of the previous versions and place it in a contemporary setting. A specific release date for Jagged Alliance 3 has not yet been confirmed, but a 2011 release is anticipated. "

Both 7.62 and Brigade E5 are very playable if you manage to get your hands on some of the community patches and mods.

I still play Jagged Alliance 2 Gold with v1.13 patch all the time as well. It's one of the best mods for any game I've ever played, and adds so much to vanilla JA2 it's not even funny.
For anyone thinking of going back to JA2, I highly recommend getting the v1.13 mod and to play with Bobby Ray's gun selection set to "Awesome" when you start a new game.
What this does exactly is, as soon as you have access to Bobby Rays, the website has ALL the new guns and equipment in the game. Of which there are hundreds of new awesome weapons, new ammo, tactical backpacks, ghillie suits, mortars, RPGs, grenade launchers, laser sites, night vision goggles, folding stocks, bipods, etc. Just TONS of new amazing hi-tech gear for your mercs to play with. It's not really a cheat, because you still have to actually buy the stuff, but at least you can spend your money on the best gear in the world.
Tons of fun and completely renews interest in this old classic.

is the max res in 1.13 still limited to 1024x768? Should be an easy fix for them to support other resolutions as well since 1024x768 was added.

I think so. Dont know how easy it would be for them to add higher resolutions though.

Once the source code was released when Wildfire came out they made TONS of changes to get version 1.13 (including adding the extra resolutions up to 1024x768). It's probably not trivial but it should be doable given some of the other things they accomplished.
Personally, I'd love to see a modern remake of Jagged Alliance and the old Close Combat games. Keep the formula mostly the same. Maybe tweak it a bit. Update the visuals a little. That'd be a blase.
