If you never played FH "1" you might be in for a shock!. FH is 100% in to realism, 1 shot one kill etc. Also all vehicles behaves like they should in the real world...more or less.

Its a mod.
Quote: | Forgotten Hope 2 is a World War II modification for Battlefield 2™ and is based on the original Forgotten Hope, a modification for Battlefield 1942™, one of the most popular multiplayer games ever. Battlefield 1942™ featured land, sea and air combat in a way never before seen. It was the goal of the development team to maximize the game experience by adding both a realistic and enjoyable gameplay to FH and the same goes for FH2 in the future.
With over 250 new pieces of authentic equipment, with tanks such as the mighty Russian IS-2 heavy tank and the diminutive Japanese Ha-Go light tank, aircraft from the rugged American P47 Thunderbolt to the antiquated British Fairey Swordfish biplane, warships such as the British Ark Royal aircraft carrier and the German Battleship Tirpitz and weapons including the powerful German Panzerfausts and the fearsome Russian PPSh-41 submachine gun, Forgotten Hope has a wider scope than any other Second World War First Person Shooter, ever.
But the war is far from over. With the release of Electronic Arts™ Battlefield 2™, the development potential has increased a lot. An all-new game engine and physics system brings the battlefield to life like never before. The new material penetration feature measures weapons’ ability to fire through barriers based on their composition and players will need to know the difference between concealment and cover in order to survive. Immense, richly detailed, destructible environments, from city streets to remote forests, brought to you with brilliant graphics are more features of Battlefield 2™, to name a few. And we are going to bring all this to the Second World War. |
You wont recognize that its based on BF2 though, its a COMPLETE new game. Check it out on Friday...you will see

Maybe now I can get some play out of BF2...Hated the infantry combat, and its pretty much what every server runs 24/7...that ugly middle eastern infantry only map.

It's only three years too late.
I've said this countless times and I'll say it again - mark my words - people will play this mod hard for two weeks, after which you'll be hard pressed to find more than one or two servers full at any time of day.
EVERY SINGLE MOD for BF2/2142 undergoes the same process, no matter how good or shitty - massive surge for 2 weeks or so, followed by complete lack of players.
I don't want to sound ungrateful, but that's the hard truth of the matter. I realize the mod is free and that people worked their assess off on it, but that won't change its fate. BF mods never last long.
Moving on, the problem with shooting for realism (excuse the pun) in an engine like BF2 is that it simply doesn't "mesh" well with its limitations. As an example - Point of Existence (which also went for realism vehicle/weapon wise). They modeled the German Helicopter (Tiger) vs. Ukrainian (Russian HIND). They gave the HIND 64 dumb-fires true to real life. They gave the Tiger 22 (true to real life as well). Speeds and models (hit silhouettes) were also accurate.
The problem was, while the HIND had more firepower, its silhouette was 4x as large. In real life, where helo to helo combat would take place over 2-4 miles out with Sidewinders, in BF you are limited to a few hundred meters at most. The result? Tiger could dominate the HIND every time.
Realism only works if the engine parameters support it. Although WWII had much less advanced weaponry - and air wise there was no BVR so it might work better.
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

I really, really like the idea of this - realism and lots of authentic weapons and vehicles. And as a multiplayer game with lots of players.
But as mentioned now - how long will it last? I dont own a copy of BF2, so i guess i would have to buy it in order to play, and if its true that BF-mods die out within a month, then i dont know if its worth it, even if BF2 is cheap as hell.
I hope that one day theres a GOOD, realistic mmo war fps out, that really isnt mostly run & gun, and actually needs teamplay. Hell, the only "real" teamplay ive experienced is clanmatches in CS, and that has been fun as hell. Imagine a modern day realistic, teamplay-based shooter, just awesome.

I dont know why even good mods have it so difficult , i guess back when CS and desert combat were the big mods , there was alot less choice for online multiplayer , and they were refreshing setting wise .
Players got spoiled alot over the past years , and better looking engines require mods which its devs who use their spare time to make to look as good as the main game , this is slowly turning into a second job for them , for example the FH team had several new additions to the dev team leave pretty quickly once they realized how much work went into it. Also check Xfire what is the most played game at the moment , it feels like half the online playerbase is sucked into world of warcraft ( including me ).
But two things are for sure , Forgotten hope is pure quality in art / coding , it took this long cause they wanted a nearly perfect release , the bugs you might encounter are mostly engine related , so no balance issues like the vanilla games.
Secondly a hardcore fanbase , FH1 on BF1942 is still played on full servers to this day , even with them alone FH2 will be a success. Also the very different setting from BF2 vanilla ( time wise ) will find alot of new players interested , cause no matter how good POE/OPK/PJR are , they still are same time setting as BF2 with different weapons.
I for one can only advice you if you have BF2 , reinstall it , download FH2 , and give it at least a try , you wont regret it

Common guys, these good ppl have worked on this HARD AND LONG!!!! and they wont get a penny for it except the cred etc. I am sure they have done a KICK ASS job on this one, so one more day or what have you wont matter much really. The "devs" of FH are pure fanatics/lovers of perfection and history, if they want it like this and like "AngryS" said Quote: | It also gives time for people to set up some dedicated servers | no biggie, is it now...lets just call it " just in time for the weekend, and some serious "Desert" warfare shall we.
