Not only my monitor got fucked up and each time I change resolution the fucking thing needs to be shut down for 30 minutes, if I want to use it again, I also got lots of BSODs!
Apparently a 512mB stick (I got another one though) got screwed and I had random BSODs every few minutes. Now I took the little fucker off and now I don't get any BSODs but COD4 became one big stutter. Anyhow what pissed me off the most was the fact that for each BSOD I had to turn off the monitor for half an hour! ffs... And I couldn't even see the damned BSOD because of the problem! Not even talking about the fact that 90% of the minidump files came out corrupted.

What the heck, I still got a warranty for my ram, but unfortunately not for my monitor (Samsung 710T) Sad

Btw: Anybody knows if this problem with the monitor is fixable? (I dunno about any LCD monitor technician)

And this is the little fucker (So far no BSODs since he's out)

have you tried the monitor with a different computer? Perhaps either the monitor or the pc has voltage or current instabilities. I had a tv once with some fucked up capacitors that spiked current into the tv-cables and destroyed a sat-receiver and a vhs recorder that way. With a picture like that and if you say that you have to turn it off for a certain amount of time it could also be a cold soldered connection. Dunno how easy it is to error-check your monitor though...

That heat shield is getting prints from everything, and my thumbs are not greasy at all. That's why I got that lotion cream on the left Razz

Anyhow the BSODs are back :/ Been surfing a bit and they happened again. I wonder wtf causes them. the minidump analysis by WinDBG usually point that the problem is caused by csrss.exe and nvata.sys... though I already reinstalled my mobo drivers.

Lutzi- I didn't try my monitor on another computer, but I did try another monitor on this computer, and the other monitor worked perfectly. What's a cold soldered connection btw?

Could it be that the problem lies not with your monitor or your ram (which is already excluded) but with your video card? It could be overheating or worse, dying.

Yea, heat is never a good thing. Could also be the PSU that is dying, or simply the fan on the cracard, or even the heat sink. Have you opened the case and checked that all fans are running, including the fan/fans on the PSU?

The fact that you get the BSOD after some time and not instantly could well be that something is over heating.

when hardware fails and has to be cooled down to work again, you either have an overheating issue, or the above mentioned problems with soldered connections. The places where stuff is soldered together to form a working curcuit can become bad, either by heat, shock, oxidation / aging or because the initial soldering was done improperly. Often you ll either have to wait for some time for the hardware to work properly or vice versa it will fail after a certain amount of time, because the material will change density because of being heated up. The change in density then leads to the connection to break / stop working (or it will only start working after being heated up).

see here for example http://www.tangible-technology.com/articles/joint_update.html

but as the others said, check your airflow in the case and the fans (chipset, cpu and gfx-card fans) as it could still be everything else

Thanks Lutzifer for the thorough explanation.

And I guess it's not because of temperatures (which are 30-40 Celsius) and not the video card since I've replaced my audio drivers a few hours ago and since then I haven't encountered even 1 BSOD.
I hope it means that I fixed it and that it won't happen again.

All I got left to fix now is the monitor. Lutzifer, you think I can easily spot that weak soldering (if it really is the problem) if I open up my monitor case? If it really is the problem and it's not that hard to fix, I may be able to fix it myself, no?

if it s a crt, i wouldnt do it because of electrical shock and let a professional do it. With a TFT you could try it, but chances are that you ll ruin the monitor also (most TFTs arent easy to open without damaging something, especially the small cables going to the display). And even if you find the bad solder joint, you d need a decent regulated soldering iron, so you dont botch the repair by overheating / burning cables or a curcuit board.

To be sure it s an internal problem of the monitor i d first change all cables (vcd and power) and try it on a different computer, operated from a different power-socket. If you r monitor has vcd and dvi, check if perhaps only one of the two is faulty.

Perhaps you know some electronics nerd who can check the monitor for you inexpensively? That s what i d try first Wink

Already tried switching the cables, trying both VGA and DVI, trying it on different computers, trying another monitor on this computer. But they all pointed it's a problem with the monitor (It's an LCD/TFT).

I'll try looking for someone who knows how to handle these things. Meh... I don't want to spend money on another monitor now when I enlist soon anyways :/

I wouldn't be able to take it with me to the army. Anyways it won't be any good for games Razz (Not that my current pc is, but still it's much better than a laptop)
