2 things... 1, i dunno if id ever buy something from a company called sparkle... its like buying a drink called gay juice...

second, what is display port? i mean i read the site and understand what it does, but is it intended to replace dvi and hdmi? the capabilities sound great, but i dunno if its something companies like microsoft for example, would be happy about? in short, i understand what it does, but i dont understand what it means in terms of what will support it etc...

I bought a sparkle card back in the day, they've been around for a long long while .. Still, they make pretty horrid budget cards so this is a bit of a shocker.

Sparkle aren't so bad. They make cards just as good as the rest.

Now if you had said Q Tec then I would agree.

ok so weve discovered that sparkle, while still has a very fruity limp wristed name that even pee-wee herman would feel ashamed of, has products that range from rubbish to decent..

so now can we move on to my second statement re: displayport?

Sparkle has been around for a while and mostly in the states but I do like their heatsink designs better than most next to EVGA's AC3 cooling.

I believe their also making the first 1GB 8800GT with passive cooling.

As for the speeds they under perform most but not by a whole lot and they usually cost a bit less.

wow so a sound card is build into this gfx ? or does it take the sound data from your sound card ?

anyway nice idea sending Video and Audio by the same port in Pc's turns the PC more and more into a console Razz , and what displays does actually work with this ?

It's another format war between VESA and Intel which holds the hdmi licence in its iron fist. Manufacturers don't want to have to bow down to Intel's licence fee and drm demands. Doesn't matter that display port has its own form of drm supported by AMD. Rolling Eyes

Now manufacturers have the option of choosing one or the other (and risk losing market share due to incompatibility) or both which is stupidly expensive. Cable and adapter manufacturers will have a field day while consumers will lose time, money and hair.

If I remember correct, thats not the only reason. displayport has a higher bandwith and can therefore offer higher resolutions and higher refresh rates. afaik.

Agreed, but there already so many acronyms in the hardware world like dvi, hdmi, etc. Sad Maybe it might just work to be different from the crowd and use a name which might become a generic term like aspirin or something.

Sparkle is the Evga of Asia. Just because it's not recieved well here doesn't mean they are a bad board partner. Besides, I remember reading that like 4-5 of the Nvidia board partners are run out of one company in Asia just under different names to differentiate bundles/accessories. These include some of the big ones too.

Users should boycott the new Display Port, we're still getting accustomed to DVI/HDMI so this is ridiculous Crying or Very sad

Hopefully it will transpire to be more for the commercial market..

Why boycott new technology. If that's how you feel about it you should boycott quad core and dual GPU's
