Looking for around 17" screen size and something thatll run vista with no speed problems.
Ideally around the £400-650 price range. |
Are you only ordering in the UK?
Or are you up to ordering outside UK aswell?

Acer being a shitty company with the lack of any quality in their products isn't excused cause of your personal experience.
PS, only laptops I would buy would be Dell (even though their desktops are god awful) Toshiba or Asus.

Does the battery charge and work ok
Nick |
I think the battery needs replacing to be honest, looks like it wouldn't hold a full charge!

Ow did I fail to mention that, the battery does act up sometimes but just give it a little tap and you'r good to go again. Ow and one key feels like you'r tapping into thin air, but by pressing the key above it you get a 2 for 1 deal, so its all good.

i myself am buying acer laptops already for 5 years now.
Never had any problems with them sofar.
Maybe i am lucky i dont know but one time i bought a dell laptop and i had problems with the screen every 2 months or so and it had to go back to the service center.
So i would always go for an Acer laptop over and over again.
ps: only problem i have with Acer is the driver support. They do not support there laptops in a good way.
But then again lots of drivers u can find all over the net and u dont need a special acer driver.

You and your friends are just lucky not to have problems with Acers. My friend works at a service (warranty) center and Acer notebook users get in lines there on a DAILY basis.
P.S. No, they don't send special shitty Acer notebooks to Russia
P.P.S. you mentioned 2-5 y.o. notebooks - well, back then they may have been better. everything changes much quicker now.

Currently I own one of the new HPs (no probs yet), missus has an older HP and I still keep my old Asus S200N subnotebook which has never ever failed me.

Samsung R70. £650-£700
It has Core Duo, 8600 Nvidia mobile, built in TV and Web cam, Vista.... the list goes on.
It's lite, has long battery life, and beats the Dell, Acer and Fujitsu hands down on every front. No contest for a cheap powerfull laptop.
Getting very high review scores.

What do you guys think of IBuyPower? I was thinking about something like this build, with a 2.4ghz and 7200 120 gig comes out to $1153 USD.
http://www.ibuypower.com/ibp/store/configurator.aspx?mid=249
Only issue I see is the battery juts out a bit in the back, but its a really nice looking build with a 512 Geforce 8600GT.

I know this is slightly beyond the budget but it is a really great deal.
"In addition, the Gateway P-Series FX Edition will be available at Best Buy retail stores. The premier model, the Gateway P-6831FX, will be available beginning this weekend at the price of $1,349.99. It comes with the WXGA+ display, NVIDIA GeForce 8800M GTS 512MB GDDR3, an Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 processor, 3GB of DDR2 SDRAM, a 250GB 5400RPM SATA hard drive, and a DVD burner."
I know it's expensive but for an actual gaming laptop that is an awesome price.
* I think it has 17" screen

Nice specs except...1.66ghz processor, 667FSB, 2MB L2 Cache. That video card kind of goes to waste with a processor like that, I would rather have something like a 2.4 coupled with a 8600GT, lower price and probably better performance. What sucks is that laptops get more and more powerfull, but the batteries do not. I imagine a card like that would last all of 30 minutes on a full charge.
That is part of a lineup that is being released over the next month, the 2.00ghz T7250 processor for $1600 (2MB L2 Cache, 800FSB), 2.40 ghz T8300 processor for $2000 (3MB L2 Cache, 800FSB), and Intel Core 2 Extreme 2.80 ghz X7900 for $3000 (4MB L2 Cache, 800FSB). The T5450 in this has a FSB of 667mhz, while the 8300 and 7250 up it to 800. The T7250 would be a much better purchase if you want a great gaming laptop within a reasonable price range.
I'm still looking into IBuyPowers deal, 2.4ghz T7700 (4MB L2 cache, 800FSB) with a solid 8600GT for $1150 is a very nice price.

I just got a Dell M1330 XPS (13 XPS). It blows my mind. Though its not in your price range, the quality of the product is mind blowing. I never knew how amazing a laptop could be.
Trounces a macbook and looks nicer.
