OK, so I have am old PC, it has 2 drives, each a partition of its own. So I have made a clean install of XP on c:
Now I want to setup win98se on either c: or d: and of course have an os-option at startup. I usually install 98 first, then XP, cause it detects 98 and creates a valid boot.ini file.
Suggestions ? Do I only need to put a correct boot.ini after installing 98 ?

Install 98 on d:\ (not the primary drive) then install XP, it makes the boot.ini automatically. That's how used to install XP when I had 98.

You didn't even read my post !
P.S.: I'm not reinstalling XP, tsk tsk |
oops, sorry mate, too tired
ok, so set another drive as active drive/partition, install 98 on that, then set the active drive/partition to the XP and start recovery console. Rebuild the boot.ini from there. I think it will find both XP and 98 and make entries for them.
