OK, so I have am old PC, it has 2 drives, each a partition of its own. So I have made a clean install of XP on c:

Now I want to setup win98se on either c: or d: and of course have an os-option at startup. I usually install 98 first, then XP, cause it detects 98 and creates a valid boot.ini file.

Suggestions ? Do I only need to put a correct boot.ini after installing 98 ?

Install 98 on d:\ (not the primary drive) then install XP, it makes the boot.ini automatically. That's how used to install XP when I had 98.

how old can that pc possibly be?

if it's p3 at least 500mhz it can handle xp with at least 256mb ram

i'll install 98 again only if someone will threaten to use nuclear bomb next to me

Is it hard to understand my posts, guys ?

It's p3 450 with 128 mb RAM and it can handle XP (barely), and like I said I ALREADY have XP on that as a primary OS. I just also need win98 for my own purposes.

Actually, I want to know if I can install 98 on d: and then make a boot.ini. Would that work, cause if it doesn't, I'll probably need to delete everything and start from scratch.

EDIT: Oh, I don't have a floppy drive to boot from, by the way, just cdrom

oops, sorry mate, too tired

ok, so set another drive as active drive/partition, install 98 on that, then set the active drive/partition to the XP and start recovery console. Rebuild the boot.ini from there. I think it will find both XP and 98 and make entries for them.
