|
 |
Ive got a question about the component cable, which is the best cable to use (except HDMI, i hear its the best one)? I have the cable it came with, and then i bought VGA cable so i can play on my monitor, which looked great. Now my TV supports 720p, but somehow some shows are shown in 1080i, and i can set 1080i in xbox resolution too. Now which one looks the best, or does it really matter (32" TV). VGA looks good too, but when i set my native resolution (13-- by 7--, -- because i cant remember the exact resolution), the screen shifts to left and i have an inch of missing/black space on the screen (is there any way to shift the screen using xbox, since i cant find that function on my tv), so i have to set to a lower resolution. So out of all the cables, which one is the best one, and at what resolution?

If your TV supports multiple resolutions then VGA at 1280x768 which is 720p. This way there will be less scaling by the 360 which can slightly distort the image resulting in jaggies and stretching.
Of course with the VGA you need to alter the colour settings of the TV to compensate for the reduced saturation compared to component. You get used to it pretty quick though and it's worth it for a cleaner image.

Tried 1280x768, and the picture is shifted, its a bit less than higher resolution, but still a noticeable black line. I tried 1280x720, and there are no shifted pictures, i guess thats the setting im gonna use. And by altering the color settings you mean by changing settings on the tv itself and not the xbox, since i cant find any color settings in xbox settings?
Thanks for suggestions.

Ok, my advice was really only based on my experience and at the end of the day it depends on your TV. Can your TV output multiple resolutions? I mean, not just changing the resolution settings on the 360 but on the TV itself. You're just going to have to experiment I guess.
If the colour doesn't bother you then don't change it, it's just that when I switched from component to VGA there was a noticeable 'washed out' look in comparison. After changing a couple of the presets on my TV it actually looked far better then the component in terms of colour in my opinion. Also set your reference levels to expanded in the 360 display menu.

I agree with AM.
Personally I've had both set up. While VGA seems to look a hell of a lot better at 1080p, component gives a more vibrant color (component cables can't technically do 1080p, they'd be doing 1080i or some shit, there's too many debates about it).
In the end, the best solution is to go with HDMI. Grab the ngear HDMI cable for 5$ (people will spend 150$+ on monster cables, but the fact is, digital signal doesn't degrade, it's there, or it's not) and use that.

Yeah but my xbox doesnt have an HDMI. I will be buying arcade soon, but i really have no idea if they make arcades with hdmis. I got one arcade from target, and the fucker was broken right out of the box so i had to return it. It had scratches on the back, and you could tell it was opened and is probably a refurb. Is there anyway to tell the production date from looking at the box? Both VGA and cable look a bit dark in some places, its kind of hard to see small stuff in the distance, but i think its just my tv not being that great (its 720p max, so im not even thinking about 1080p, though somehow it does show some stuff in 1080i)
Thanks for suggestions.

Krest, here is some info on how to identify a Falcon, newer Arcades should hopefully be Falcons and have hdmi. I'm not sure though if they put the manufacturing date on the box.
