Publisher: NA
Developer: AceTeam
Media type and size: DVD
Genre: Action / FPS
Release date: 02/2009
ACE Team announced that they’ve licensed Valve’s Source engine to produce a new action-fantasy game for the PC. Zeno Clash is set in a punk fantasy world, and will focus mainly on action based melee combat. The team promises a ton of “brutal combat” within a first person perspective. The use of exotic firearms makes the game sound a little like Metroid Prime, except that it’s first person action rather than first person adventure

Looks like one of those bad digitized arcade games that came out in the early to mid 90's.

it's interesting how when no big budget boring dumb-fests like far cry,for example, come out, people start talking crap about stuff they have no idea about.
next time stay away from threads about games that don't star space marines or chicks in skin-tight suits, 'cause you just make yourselves look stupid.

$20 price makes this a guaranteed day-one purchase for me. Game looks fantastic, and the developers are really cool guys.

I really like the art design, but the combat system looks kindof... bad, judging from the youtube gameplay video.

i read the google-translated preview which left me with the impression that most of the game is comprised of arena battles, which is a bit dissapointing.
i was expecting an open world and some quests. i can make do with the game being split into levels, but quests/puzzles would've been cool, to break up the fighting.

new interview: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2009/01/30/unknown-pleasures-2009-zeno-clash/
a bit about the gameplay
Quote: | The most important thing Zeno Clash has to get right is the melee combat. There’s no question that they’ve nailed the art design (although some more colour balance is needed, the gorgeous backgrounds tend to be so colourful that spotting your enemy can be tricky), the voice acting is quite remarkably good, and even the weapons are completely novel. What will make or break it is how convincing the one-on-one fighting feels.
From our brief play, it’s almost there. Dodging is still tricky, and getting hit has a surprisingly violent result, causing you to drop any weapon you might carry, stumble, and lose a chunk of health. (The game uses Mortal Kombat-style health bars at the top of the screen during fights). I think this might simply be a difficulty tweak - even on Easy it’s a tad challenging. However, I can safely say I’ve never played a game in which I’ve beaten up an elephant with a hammer, or bashed someone’s face into my knee quite so brutally, yet without it feeling icky. |
can anyone say no to beating an elephant with a hammer?

Dying to play this game.
Correcting people since 2007 even if they're not wrong.

Good, I hate elephants.
Also, it;s source engine so it will actually play on my PC and not be a lagging bloom-infested console shitport !

wtf, this is lame. if this is a 4hr game, they'd better be already working on the sequel.
