There are so many different versions and patches and issues with protection with the different versions with this game that I don't know where to even begin. Which version and which latest patch do I need for online play? Can it be played on official servers without an official CD key? Are there a number of cracked servers?
I'll be thankful if someone can clear this up for me.
Dont know really.. I bought my copy. All I can say is that the beta patches, 1.09 and 1.11 dont require the CD to be in the tray but you will probably need a proper CD-key to play online.

Well i dont know about online play, but if you want to play with your friends - Use Hamachi, its a freeware program which will create a private Virtual Lan between you and your friends
to create a joinable server you need to:
1. unplug your internet cable (or disable your connection via Control panel)
2. Start the game
3. Create a LAN server
4. plugin your internet cable (or enable in CP)
After these steps people from your Hamachi network will be able to connect to your server, some random morphing to a seagul will occur but only to clients (not the server) if this happens just reconnect this trick works with all the patches available on the net (atleast i think so)
p.s. every player must have a different cdkey generated with the keygen
