Sony have done well - why are there still no hacks / mods for the PS3 yet.

It seems to me like we've waited longer than for the average console...

And nothing on the horizon? Annoying!

Well done sony?

It's not that bad, and it's ALOT more reliable than the Xbox 360. Whats more, free online gaming.

I'd buy one for CoD4 alone, if i got risk free, free online gaming.

But i was just suprised there had been no hacking progress at all - i mean, you can run linux on it ffs!

I think one of the major problems is the cost of burning games. I mean BluRay burner last time i checked was still 500+ dollars. The discs are $20 each, it would take a lot of burns to recoup that loss.

There´s some achievements in hacking the PS3! It´s not much, but is a work in progress. And the primary objective is to run isos from the HDD. BD-R are too expensive.

PS3 hacking ahoy! Overflow .tiff exploit discovered:

NAND Extractor:

By Resistance i meant exlusive SONY titles. They lost 80% of their exclusive franchise. Theres no way im bying a PS3 unless it got hacked. Games here are 70$ so fuck that.

I guess there's no major reason for a hacker to look for exploits, because Linux runs out of the box Smile

I am not interested in Resistance as much as Uncharted. I will buy a PS3 eventually.

I'm gonna get a PS3 for Disgaea 3.

hehehe

I also wanna play MGS4 and FFXIII but other than that I can't think of anything as I already have a 360.

I hope that media center for the ps3 will be released soon.
I'm planning on replacing my good old modded Xbox with a ps3 as mediacenter as the xbox can't handle HD content and it's just getting old Razz

I do love my xbox media center though... I probably used my xbox more to watch movies than I used it to play games.

lets try and keep this on topic though, not a 360 vs ps3 thread.

obviously a ps3 running isos from the hdd would be great.

I vote for that...since Bluray burner/media are way too expensive and will stay like that for a while since they won the war

I think it is hacked already. But main problems for now are the firmwares that sony forces you into. And if something comes up it better be the HDLOADER. Because now you can buy 1TB for like 80euro's Very Happy

I'm more concerned about "still no games"
besides 3 or 4 exceptions nothing really shines on the PS3
I'm hopping it can change this year...

Yeah, the exclusive game series I really enjoyed on my PS2 were GTA (not really exclusive, but at least some months earlier than on other platforms), MGS and Tekken. With GTA now being no longer exclusive and great fighting games on the Xbox360, I don't think I would buy one in the near future, just for those 2 games. Time will tell if there are any new titles that really attract me, I think I will eventually buy one, but the price has to drop significantly before that.

On Topic: I think Sony has done a good job preventing modchips, but of course it will be hacked in some time. The only thing is really the BD-Burners and media, I don't think those will get really cheap in the near future. So, the best way would be to play them from the HDD, but looking at how long that took on the PS2 (was way past the first modchips, if i remember right), that could take some time...

The HDD came out years after the first modchips, so naturally they couldn't support it Wink

if that blu ray drive in the ps3 can read normal dvd disc then hackers might be able to hack the firmware(just like with x360) and spoof the medium so it THINKS,an DL-DVD disc is a blu ray disc, then game RIPS could be made playable until they sort out a HD hack. Razz
