My mother recently gave me her laptop but I dont have the admin password. My mother forgot the password. Im trying to reinstall Windows XP but it wont allow me to do it unless im the system admin. What can I do? Its like the entire system is locked. I can't install anything at all.

When you say admin password, you mean a bios password? Otherwise you could just reformat the HDD. If it's the bios password, you might need to open the laptop up and remove the battery for a few minutes to reset the bios.

Oh I see what the problem was. I inserted the operating system disc into the drive after I was logged into windows with the guest username. But I just restarted the laptop with the disc in the drive and it is now reformatting.
