My problem may sound a bit awkward to you, but I am dying to get my girlfriend to play League of Legends Wink. The game may be simple to play, but it requires a certain skill that only RTS veterans seem to possess.

Can you think of any simple, but not "hold my hand" RTS games that I could show to my girlfriend to introduce her to the concept of "strategic thinking"? Very Happy

Any non-troll comments would be much appreciated!

Chess may teach you strategic thinking, but it's not an RTS. You know what I mean Wink.

Thanks for your posts! I'll definitely take Rise of Nations under consideration.

You mean strategy games in general?
- Tropico 3
- Restaurant Empire 2
- Rise Of Nations
- EndWar
- World In Conflict
- Ceasar 3
- Rollercoaster Tycoon
- Darwinia
- The Movies+exp
- Ghost Master

Pretty easy to learn these games.

+ Age of Emires series and Age of Mythology

ps. Somehow AoE 3 is not good as AoE 2 and I still hope one day we will see good RTS as AoE 2 is.

Well... not RTS but strategic anyway; Civilization 4.

I got my gf into a lot of gaming with that game. We're still playing it once in a while, though these days with addons such as Fall from Heaven. Really nice game, and you can play cooperatively.

My gf still likes the old AoE 2. It's quite simple to understand, but offers enough depth so she can learn some tactics. Sure, graphics are outdated, but it will run on every PC out there Wink

Seriosly, I think you are just wasting your time. Strategies are not for women. Ok, LoL is not "strategic" as Age of Empiresi, it's pretty much a deathmatch arena with spells and fantasy graphics, but strategic games are "manly" games simply because it's not in a woman's nature to wish to build an army and conquer anything. Testosterones and shit.
Just get your pals to play LoL, you will have more fun.

I say go straight to League of Legends if that's the goal .. I find it has very little in common to strategy games...actually more to role playing games Smile So i don't think any strategic thinking is necessary.. well it's important to have good positioning.. & wait anxiously in the bushes and gang bang lone heroes.. but everything that is possible just with good coordination and team speak.. No need to worry the gal with commanding battalions of soldiers ina bloodbah.. (hm.. tho i Company of Heroes is quite strategic...also Dawn of war 2.. or if just for the action and cutness... go for Red alert 3.. it's colorful.. it has animals.. Laughing )

"Some of the best" is not a valid argument if you want to tackle this thing in a statistics point of view.
I also know a woman who play Quake 3 like a maniac, yet most other women can't even orient properly in virtual 3D space, let alone play Q3 successfully. Another woman is doing growl vocals in my friend's death metal band (and she looks pretty nice), yet it's obviosly not a feminine thing to do lol
Percent of women playing strategies (compared to total number of strategy players, of course) is waaaaay lower than, say, MMO games, and it's certainly lower even than of fp shooters and rol-players.
