One is a Nanday Conure (loud screaming bird) and the other is a love bird. They love each other very much and are bonded.
Today I took them both out. They are kinda cage bound which means they don't like to leave their cage. The love bird does but the nanday I have to basically grab with garden gloves on because he is so freaked about leaving the cage. Once he is out is the sweetest bird ever. I can kiss him, let him nibble my eyelashes and he never bits.
I had to leave my dog outside. He was crying at the door and I know he wouldn't hurt them on purpose but I think better be safe than sorry after sooo.
OK, that wasn't what I was thinking of but still..... Cool.
Birds of prey are great and they are getting more pouplar as more people want natural way to get rid of pests like rats and mice.
Those birds would kill my Nanday in a second. I have had falcons land on my tressis looking for her as she is screaming her head off inside the house. My Nanday is dinner to most of those kinds of birds of prey.
Well ya the turkey bird but these are really smart animals.
My bird is trained to shit in the tolet, I tell him to "Go Poo" and he shits on command over the tolet. Plus he talks. He tells me to "come here" when he wants attention. Says "Hello: at the right moment. He also asks for kisses, He says "wanna kiss" when he is needy. If I ignore him he starts screaming "come here" which is really funny. My Love bird is is side kick
My sister had a second job and works with some of the bigger birds. I swear she is going to get her nose bitten off because that ishow some of the blue and gold macca's are. She kisses them too much on the face. They are bonded with some of the gardners and when one of them walks into the room they bit her. Her business not mine.
My sister has a cat and a love bird. Roseburger is the lovebirds name, They let the bird out when the cat is locked up so all is well. The cat did get the bird once. That meant a vet bill because dog and cat saliva is posionus to birds
My cat is such a devious git I doubt a cage can stop her. I would have to lock her out of the room entirely. She can even open the fridge, so I had to buy a child proof lock for it. Funny thing is, is that she knows it's the lock that stops her getting in and tries to get at that. So a bird cage would be a breeze for her.
ya, you don't want to have birds in a house like that. Everything has to flow together and pets have to get along. For example my dog doesn't go pouncing on the bird care wire, he is quite happy to give a sniff and say "HI" then he leaves which is what I want. To my Dog the birds are family. He has learned to protect them.
I've always had cats as a pet. One time me and a friend were sitting at the kitchen table with the door open, and a bird flew inside. The cat didn't even think for one second, it just jumped up and caught the bird out of the air and trotted out the door with it in its mouth. It was like a little nature documentary right in my kitchen lol.
BTW we have 5 kittens right now, anyone want a cat?
Birds are nice but you can't pet them and really play with them ... not as fun as cats.
Well, I can assure you grey parrots are more sociable than cats. And extremely intelligent.
Indeed I have read that some birds can have the communicative inteligence of a five year old human. What fascinates me are the birds which can copy almost any sound. Attenborough - Lyre Bird

I used to have 2 miniature parrots. The male somehow dug his way in the cage and ran off. The female remained alone for 2 years I think, and died. Decided never to have birds. Now I have a dog.

I know kinda what you mean with the dog. I love my dog. I take him everwhere but if I let the bird the dog goes into his dog run. He is a lot more needy than a bird. But the birds love me too. They groom my eyelashes and my face so gentle. It is quite amazing. Where as my dog would rather stomp on me and paw amd scratch me to death. Not that he means it/
Beautiful bird. Those are aprently the more talkative of the birds and one on the smaters ones, She/he is gorgous. I would love to see a pic of the maccaa
My love bird is a bit scruffy now because the conure is a pig on only wants herself grommed She doesn;t give back so much. The love bird is like 15 yrs old mow. Once they aer out of the cage they are the sweetest brids every.
@chin
You arre right. Some bird are about as intellegent as a 5 yr old, pretty impressive.

Birds are so smart they can excape a lot of things. My birds are currently eating their way outta their cage. They are doing a impressive job but I keep my eye one it.
When I let them out the love bird always follows the nanday everywhere. It is quite funny who much they love each over. "Little bird" is quite scruffy because the bigger bird is a bad groomer. If you go to their cage they will draw blood but when they are out they are both the sweetest birds ever. Least they are with me and my sister.
@sy
you just need more experience. My sister lets the big blue and gold macca at her work groom her FACE!!!! I think she is nuts. Anytime anyone makes a noice or walkes into the back room he bits SOMEWHERE?? So far only fingers and not bad but stilll... I would never do that.
I understand your fear. It is valid. But understand the smaller birds can only make you bleed a bit but that is it. They get over it quick.
