So I don't know where to put this so i'll just put it here in general chatter.

Anyway since the last 2-3 weeks my internet has been shit, it was really good before but now i suffer from disconnections from time to time, some last 2 mins some 6 hours.

I got a constant high ping (ms) in my games and well its just shit.

I called the company support and they told me that it's my firefox or my router and it isn't their fault, to me it would seem that they don't know what they're even talking about.
Now could it be my own problem that is causing these "symptoms" or is it the company lieing to me?

If it is the company being jackasses i'll cancel my subscription with em' on monday.

So what do you guys think? Confused

if your on cable post the modems power levels and signal to noise ratio, high pings might not be anything to do with your isp though it could just be one of the internet routers your passed through beeing crap which is outside your isps control

Try testing the connection on another computer.

that will give you an insight into where the package loss and high-ping starts

Well on the first row that is my ISP:s "IP" I got 1ms in every branch then there were some other ips but i dont think they matter.

But yeah it was like :

1ms 1ms 1ms

EDIT: I pinged them as well and got 0% loss. My ping is about 300 ms in World of Warcraft atm.

Ok progress :

So I went on my routers homepage to check the DHCP Client list ( where you see the people connected to your router)

And I can see another person with the ip of 192.168.2.7 or well i guess its his router ip.

It ain't my moms or dads since they're currently not connected to it.

is there anyway to "kick" the guy out?

wlan-router? Perhaps he "guessed" your wep-key? Changing keys might help (and if you really use wep, you should switch to wpa / wpa2), but in some routers you can also kick a user directly in the settings. You could also try to ban his mac-adress.

Meh my stupid brother forgot to set a password on the wireless so he is probably using it, I got a belkin router. Is it possible to ban his Mac address with a belkin router?

dunno, havent used a belkin router before. But look for "mac-filtering" or "device-filtering". I would only enable it, if you re hunting for intruders. Else it will usually rather lead to connection-problems for everybody.

Ok, well I put security on etc.

He seems gone but my ping is still high, thou I cannot seem to be able to enter my router website so I can't tell for sure if he is gone but I have set a password for the wireless connection, IT's WPA security as well.

So, what is the next step?

What should I do further to test my connection.

The other lines in the traceroute do matter. The first one that said 1ms is the router you have at home, so check again where the ping starts going up, or paste some lines here.

2 <1 ms <1 ms 1 ms 217.209.228.34

3 1 ms <1 ms <1 ms 82.209.176.145

4 5 ms 1 ms 1 ms 64.214.143.69

5 108 ms 111 ms 113 ms 0.ge-4-0-0.BR3.NYC4.ALTER.NET [204.255.169.125]

6 118 ms 115 ms 115 ms 0.ge-5-0-0.XL4.NYC4.ALTER.NET [152.63.3.117]
