A friend of mine lives in a multistorey block of flats. Anyway the Council repainted all the front doors and the cupboard doors in the corridor outside a few weeks ago. No problem so far.

The guy who lives opposite moved out and the Council cleaners came to clear the flat out and the cupboard outside.

He (my mate) goes to get some tools out of his cupboard and it's totally empty, even the rubbish had been taken. So it's then he notices that the painters have mixed the numbers on the exterior cupboards up. He's lost a clothes press, a wardrobe, a brand new single bed, his brick laying tools and a few other bits and pieces. About £1500 worth of stuff in total.

Yes he is suing them.

Well he used to own his own place. Ripped off he was. Now he's a bricklayer. He's so pissed off with losing his tools. He can't afford to replace them and can't work until they're replaced. He's thinking of getting the police involved due to the illegal entry aspect of it all.

Well the Council illegally entered and tool his belongings.
I think that deserves a good pay out.

i would have though aND THEN DONE IT! Goddamn friggin fuckups! And then i would have gone to the council's beaurocratic worms and would have overly nice (really, i m one of those persons) requested to get my stuff back ASAP, or i wouldnt go to the police again to drop the charges. Its great to carry a small black notebook and keep track of each and every name and their statements you encounter within the beaurocratic process. Makes em nervous and gets the job done faster. At least around here Very Happy

my sympathies to your friend

The stuff they clear out Lutz goes straight to the Council tip. Well that's the theory. I would say that if theres anything they can carry off that's half decent goes back to the clearance guys. So some Council worker has a nice set of tools.

yeah, i imagined as much. Still, if the council puts some preasure on their workers because of the legal threat, all could go much faster, i assume. I hope he gets his stuff back and wont have go through the ordeal of buying everything new (which sucks even if you get fully compensated)

I very much doubt he'll get the gear back. Like I said it will be on a tip or at a workers house. Theres no way a worker would admit to taking anything, more than their jobs worth.
I think he's going to sue for loss of potiental earnings and the stuff he's had removed.
Then theres the illegal entry as I said. He heard from a none connected Council worker that the painters are going to be bollocked. So I reckon that if all goes well he should be in line for a hefty compensation payment.

Just been speaking to him. The housing officer is refusing to speak to him after they didn't bother phoning him.

He's seeing a solicitor tommorow. The solicitor said because of their stalling he's going to sue them for illegal entry, loss of earnings, stolen gear and trespass.
He reckons that if he's successful he's looking at a small fortune in compensaition.
