hey guys
new here so be gentle biggrin.gif
i have an older xbox360 with a 46 hitachi drive. it has a weird fault. when you 1st turn xbox on it will play anything fine, originals, backups, dvds, cds etc.. but after around 20 mins of using the drive it will stop reading any disks.
using the same disk that worked a short while ago, when the problem happens, i try it again, and status says reading, takes a little while and then says open tray.
its weird how it works fine when xbox hasnt been on for a while which is whats confusing me. i doubt its anything to do with the other hardware as when it happens i can go to the dashboard and play around, view downloaded videos, games and music etc.
any idea what could be wrong with this, i am baffled for sure?
any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.
ABSOLUTE INK

At a guess I would say the problem is heat. everything you say points to this, but i'm sure others here can help you more

Well I assume you already voided the warranty since you said it plays backups aswell, try to remove the case and just leave the xbox open and then play for an hour and see if the problem persists.
If thats the case it's definately the heat, then maybe apply some new thermal paste or just google around what to do if your xbox is overheating.
