Along my travels on the interstellar galatic tubes of the internetz I have met many pilgrims who bitch about Microsoft. Oh I dont support Microsoft, Microsoft are <insert random insult here> MICROSOFT MICROSOFT MICROSOFT.

I dont know what these people think their campaigning (be it solo campaigns) would achieve, personally I use windows, does the job, I dont really take it to the next step of CARING about microsoft, and then proceeding to tell others about my level of CARE, theyve never done me a personal grievance and come into my house and punched me in the testicles, theyre just another company, and what do all companies try to do, make profit.

Yeah, totally agree with you. Lots of gamers complain about Windows. Id like to see them play Crysis on OS X or Ubuntu 8.04 Razz

Microsoft is only as successful as it should be. They deserve every penny they have made and if you disagree then don't buy any of their products. If it wasn't for Microsoft computers would have never gained the popularity they have now. Before Windows how many home PC users did you know and how many do you know now?

I needed to install unix on my laptop to be able to make my thesis.

So i have dual boot unix/vista now.

I have to say, they are both good in what they are made for.
unix is so fast, 10 times faster than windows when you are doing calculations (less background CPU/memory usage etc...) and you never have to reboot, never crashes etc...

but oh god oh god when you have to install things on it via the commandline and the GUI suck, but hey, thats not what it is made for. It is made for nerds who want to use all their pc power.
Windows was made for user convenience. A grandpa can use it... Everyone should install dual boot. then you realize what a f*cking pain in the ass unix can be. It is not the solution to everything.

Windows is slow and crashes now and then and blabla, but it is the easiest OS there is in the world.

I'm dual booting XP and linux here, can't say that I like linux better, it's fun that you can customize it alot and stuff like that but I can't say it's any faster than XP.

The only reason I dislike microsoft is because they sometimes make faulty/shitty products and because they add alot of shit to their software that isnt need in most cases

As much as I think MS overcharges for its products I have to say their customer services are unsurpassed. I remember when the Explorer mouse came out, it was dodgy to say the least. Anyway I rang them to complain and they sent me a new mouse. The guy said "give your old mouse to your cat" . So I got a few free mice whem I said they were faulty replacements. Not many companies would do that, replace a product without receiving the old one back.

very true. and they do do that with their defective 360 consoles. they pay for shipping, both ways.

Tho i do find the phone techs are usually useless. Unless you talk to a senior tech, its pointless you know?

It's those bloody indians that piss me off. Dunno if it's like that in Canada or America, but when you ring MS you get someone that barely speaks English.
That really annoys me.

yep, its the same here. occasionally, you get an english speaking person, which helps as the problem is solved quicker and usually english speaking ppl know a little more than they should you know? very helpful

but those that dont speak english all that well go by a book. Ive had to wait minutes before they found the correct page in the book.
Its like that with my cable company too. But more often than not you get a person who speaks english fluently (which my cable company that is)

Strange I never get that with Virgin. I always speak to an English person with them. I know that loads of British companies are dumping Indian call centres because of complaints.

I don't think the issue here is english but more a 'they took our jobs' syndrome. I would get it if there was a problem in understanding the accent but to assume that people in other countries don't speak english is just like you Jenni. In many ways you remind me of that Bucket woman in Keeping Up Appearances. Very Happy

And it's not really those 'bloody indians' that are to blame here are they? It's those 'bloody whatevers' in charge of those companies who would do anything to save a buck. But I guess we find it far easier to blame someone from a foreign country than saying nasty things about our own people.

just write a random program that does a whole lot of simple calculations and time it. Im sure linux is faster than xp. I am using vista/linux dual boot and when i run my progs, it is faster on linux than on vista.

so does Nintendo btw, my N64 once crashed, so i went to the store, i gave my old one and a got a new one. 'we will send it to nintendo and we will get a new one, you can take this one with you and we'll keep the new one'. I didnt have to explain anything, they just tested and confirmed something was wrong Smile
