Hey, so I basically know jack shit about audio hardware.

What is the best way to set up 5.1 audio from my HTPC? I only have an onboard soundcard now, but I could upgrade. Also I will need to get cables ~25ft in length so that needs to be taken into account. Do I need TOSLINK? or is the other rca cable looking spdif cable OK?

Any recommendations on cheap sound cards that work well for HTPC and gaming? This is my only computer so I would benefit from not just playing movies.

Reality is merely an illusion, albeit a very persistent one
