|
 |
Quote: | Summit Entertainment is bringing back to the big screen the 1986 sci-fi cult hit "Highlander," with "Iron Man" co-writers Art Marcum and Matt Holloway on board to pen the reimagining.
Summit acquired the rights to remake the cult classic from Davis/Panzer Prods. Peter Davis, one of the original producers of the 1986 film, also will produce the new film.
Marcum and Holloway, repped by ICM, also penned a remake of Sam Peckinpah's "Convoy." |

Personally I don't mind remakes - as long as the original one exist, it wont matter if they fail with a remake.
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

I dont think any of those 3 will be remade. No need to remake blade runner or alien. still looks good and would look bad with tons of cgi. and as for total recall, well, it wouldnt be the same without arnie you know?
I wouldnt mind seeing a remake of Highlander. The original is ok, but anyone has to admit, Lambert is a horrible B movie actor. If you've seen Absolon or some of his other movies (even highlander 2 and 3) you should agree

a remake is so utterly pointless with this franchise. every single highlander film has pretty much completely ignored the films that have come before it, and been a virtual standalone/reboot anyway.
why not just make ANOTHER highlander film that ignores the previous films and makes up the story from scratch as it goes alone, just like the previous films have always done?

Well I wasn't being serious, because there's no way those movies are going to be remade, not in my lifetime anyway.
I agree with chiv though, they should just make another movie instead of remaking it.

It just makes me sad that Hollywood does nothing but bet on 'safe' movies.
I am sure there is a wealth of very interesting and fresh material out there that could be made into new and successful movies.
But all we see lately is remakes and sequels, which are not very imaginative and boring.

well its understandable though isnt it... from a business point of view. a sequel allready has a fanbase that it can count on... take shrek 3... horribly shit movie, but it made a fortune. the mentality is why take a chance on something new, when we can have a sure-fire hit by regurgitating something old.

Because original movie hits can spark new fanbases.Star Wars and the Matrix are good examples of this. These movies basically popped out of nowhere and were loved by the people. Even though the sequels tended to be shit (or in star wars case prequels) the fanbase still exists to this day and if a new Star Wars movie ever came out it could star Ben Affleck and still be a box office success.
Taking the risks of creating new cows to milk dry is a good plan when milking the old cows can still resume as well. Even bad movies normally give a profit in the box office anyways.

im not saying that new potential franchises are a bad idea or can not be massive money makers, im simply saying that a sequel is a safer bet than a new idea.
also a good new idea is much much harder to come up with than a crappy story for a sequel.

Something that has always bothered me about highlander..
There can only be one! Yet I will come across many others and not even attempt to kill them and also even be trained by one of them. Oh and then a TV show will spawn revealing that there are 4749874 Immortals walking around and still being born which means it would never end anyways. So every action is pointless!

mine aswell
but
as they've so royally fucked over the entire franchise with A4 and AvP*, i wouldn't mind a series restart with completely new stories
or to just place alien5 in the same time as aliens in a completely different part of the galaxy and tell us avp* and a4 never happened |
meh i really hope they dont restart the series.. they should make alien 5 except either NOT have ripley in it, or have a new ripley clone - ive read some of the aliens novels that continued the stories and with a bit of story tweaking, id say theyd be perfect for adaptation - dealing with earth being taken over and then finally reclaimed. i wish theyd do those stories.

That's the stupidest idea I've ever heard.

They should just continue with that AvP crap if they feel like making more movies. Seriously, if you have an Alien movie without Ripley in it, it would be like having an Indiana Jones movie without Indiana Jones in it.

well yes and no, i agree that aliens is RIPLEYS story, but if they insist on continuing the series, it better not have super-ripley in it... id rather have no ripley at all... what they did to her character in a4 completely ruined everything that was important about her.
One of the aliens books i read had ripley back in it after the earth have been taken over by the aliens, she was a synthetic, but she wasnt aware of it until the end which was really quite a good way to acknowledging alien 3 as part of the story, but getting past it while retaining the same ripley (unlike that horrible a4 movie...)
id LOVE to see that turned into a movie. good story. and also the sequel too it, which would have had some awesome alien battles in it.
