Hi all,

Since my Xbox 360 premium got RROD and the warranty is expired i was thinking of buying a new Xbox 360 Arcade cause its only 200,- in stores now, problem is i wanna flash it and dont wanna get the wrong DVD drive, is there any way/trick to see on the box what drive you most likely get? That would help me alot in making my purchase.

Thanks in advance.

Just bring your tools with you and open the Xbox. I'm sure they wouldn't mind.

On a more serious note, as already mentioned most new drives are BenQ. The chance of getting a v79 Hitachi is low, but if you get one you're pretty much screwed as a modder. Apart from letting them open the tray, there's no way to know what drive is in there.

Your console should be warranty covered since MS expanded its warranty for the RROD failure to three years. And if i remember correctly launch day was right before Thanksgiving 05, which means your console can't be three years old. Check your receipt before buying a new one.

See that small hole under the 3 in 360, well if it's just a small black plate it's a Hitachi, if it has a white wire it's a BenQ and if it's a red wire it's a Samsung.

Tripe. I have a 79 and I'm actually looking forward to the challenge. As soon as my laser gets here.

my console was beyond warranty as well when i had the RROD problem. But you can still send it in to get fix. Just phone up microsoft (number is in back of your 360 manual), they will open a casefile for you, send you a box with prepaid shipping and your set.

Depending on your location and how close you are to the repair depot, it might not take that long to get it back.

How can it be out of warranty? , they exdended the warranty on all 360's to 3 years and as the console was released november 2005 all 360's are still under warranty.

oh i didn't knew that Surprised

problem is which shop will allow u to open the box and remove the face plate to take a looxy

i don't know single one of them here

u have to buy it and open the box, then it will be easier just to press eject button rather than removing face plate, no?

Yes you're right Mort. Unless you're buying it at a shop like Cash Convertors.
Just tell them you want to check the warranty sticker. I'm sure they wouldn't have a problem with that.

But it's the same really, you can ask them to plug it in so you can see that it works than you just press eject, most shops I know will allow this.

Depends on the shop really.
I would take the face plate off anyway to check the seal.

Depends where you're from Jmdeking. If you're from the UK don't get it at Argos. I got a Hitachi 79 from there recently.
