For a few days now my 360 is giving me RROD from time to time. Now I got a few questions concerning the hard drive before I call MS. First, do you have to mail in the console with the hard drive? I'm kinda worried to lose all my savegames, you'll never know who's handling the package and all.

Secondly what if I'll buy a new Arcade, can I just plug in my old hard drive and the savegames will work? I've read somewhere that DLC's won't work because they are bound to the consoles ID or something. I hope that's not the case for the savegames?

Thanks!

Goddamnit.. when are these supposedly "clever" hackers going to find a way to make some REAL use of the X360 HDD?

120GB on the Elite -- that's enough to hold a whole bunch of games or emulators!

Eh? That doesn't make any sense :\

It's like saying that because I don't know how to do open-heart surgery.. then nobody does. I'm not a programmer or coder, but there are plenty of those- I just figured someone should be capable of coding homebrew support, like they did for any other console.

But no one is trained to specifically hack consoles. It's learned as they go along unlike heart surgeons who train for years. That makes your argument invalid.

Yes, they learn as they go. How long has the 360 been on the market now? I'd call that a pretty long "learn as they go" process. Especially in relation to the Xbox1, the PS2, the PS1, the Dreamcast -- pretty much any console, which all had homebrew.

Thanks, then I will send in my console. Wasn't sure if I should by a new one in case they also wanted the hd. Right now the console is working again, no RROD for two days, but it will happen sooner or later I guess, now that the RROD's started. Would be nice if MS offered some sort of online backup service with gold Live accounts.

It plays copies what more do you want Sabin. How long has the PS3 been out and what can you do with that? Be thankful you can at least burn a disk and pop it in the machine to play. Sigh some people are never satisfied. I don't think you realise that some of these guys spend serious amounts of money trying to hack these machines for various diagnostic tools and equipment. When they're not making progress people complain and moan. Makes you wonder why they do it and more over why they make it public. They could after all just keep it to themselves, but I would imagine they would lose bragging rights.

I'm not dissatisfied. Not by a long shot. What I am is disappointed that the so-called "cream of the crop" .. regardless of whether or not they do it for money OR bragging rights .. hasn't been able to enable homebrew. PS3 has a "proof of concept" idea going, along the same lines as the PSP exploit. All I'm saying is that there's an entire machine with wasted potentional -- and a 120GB HDD that is used as nothing more than a glorified memory card.

What do I expect? Nothing. What would I like? The ability to play emulators, or use the HDD for something other than demo downloads and savegames.

I'm not complaining but I take it as my goddamn RIGHT to question as a human being. Progress is only made when people question and push. If everyone was content to just sit back and do nothing, homebrew wouldn't even exist.

Merely an observation. Make what you will of it.

I'm sure they're doing their best, they've just stepped down the kernal. But the security lavished on the console is complex. We're not talking about old tech like ps1/2 or xbox here. We're talking about a machine that's harder to decypher than Enigma.

Thank you! That's all I was asking for. I'm not demanding anything, I'm just curious to know -- that's all. The 360 has a LOT of potential for being more than just what it is.

I guess I was disappointed by the "rumoured" spring update that was listed as having a feature for installing part of the game to the HDD, for faster loading etc. Then Microsoft denied it was happening.

I thought they just denied it was their list. Did they specifically say there won't be an install option?

its not a rumor , the spring update only works with xbox 1 titles now to help the emulation process , but they didn't denied that the next line of titles will use the HDD , they will add a new update after they add the BD in the new elites

Whitten also told us that there would be no spring dashboard update for Xbox 360 owners this year, saying that resources were instead focused on "building the proper infrastructure and scale for the service." There will however be a change to DRM policy and a tool released next month that will allow 360 owners to re-license content to a single console--finally fixing the issue that forced gamers playing XBLA games to be connected to Xbox LIVE if their 360 broke down and was replaced.

A fact of which I'm EXTREMELY grateful for. I've got a few XBLA titles that I play frequently .. I'd hate to lose the ability to play them if I lost my net, or was banned from Live.
