Bah, just as I've spent 6 hours clearing out all quests on the citadel I was ready to do my first space trip and went to the galaxy map. And of course, the bloody game bugs out on me. It freeze up with a black screen (and a small blue rectangle on the top left saying "Widow"). If I hold right mousebutton it flashes an image of half the galaxy for a fraction of a second, then it exits the navigation mode.
Result: I'm stuck in the citadel station with no way to leave it due to buggy game/crack(?).
4GB RAM, Vista Ultimate SP1 x64, E8200@3.6, 8800GT 512mb. How annoying.

I downloaded the Reloaded version, installed game and applied crack. I configured the options on the menu launcher and when i start the game i can only see the initial mass effect logo, then a black screen appears and nothing happens. I've been trying changing screen resolutions but it didn't help so far.
Any suggestions please?
my hardware:
Athlon XP 4800+ Dual core
2GB of RAM
nvidia Geforce 8800 GT
Windows xp SP2

Same problem here - Mass Effect logo, then blank screen. The application shows up as "Not Responding" in Task Manager. It might be the crack or possibly something else. The 1st time i ran the game, after configuring it, I received a pop-up window saying that Mass Effect.exe was attempting to use ffdshow (video codec) and was asking if I should allow it. I said yes, but maybe that is my problem. Perhaps I should have said no.

It takes a pretty long time to load to the menu, dont go minimize etc when its loading.

I wonder if that is because of RELOADED's use of an emulation crack vs. a true SecuROM crack. Anyways, thanks for the tip, I'll try that... About how long would you say it takes to load the menu? I get impatient after 1 minute or so...

And you can use the galaxy map in the Normandy to leave the citadel station after finishing the main quest in the citadel? Because that's the only place that blacks out on me.

This reminds me of that old protection system where "bugs" were introduced bit by bit until it finally became unplayable. The fact that the message "Your game has been corrupted" shows up randomly when starting Mass Effect is proof of a bad crack, ie. Reloaded etc. missed something.

lol i love the disinformation that people are making about this game :
Crack is OK
Game is Bad
read it agian and agian and agian
or go to the official forums and read there about the Vista 64x problems (lol at people using 64bit systems for gaming ) , Save problems , 8800GT and 8800 problems that have problems with one effect in the galaxy map and many many other ... that other people have other DRM filed versions

obviously the 2 galaxy map idiots on the bioware forum are using the fix, not the original...
i dont care about the other problems since none of them cause me problems

Oh obviously. Seriously. Yeah. That's why they own the legit version, that doesn't have ANY media check, just so they can crack it. Obviously.
</sarcasm>
If you look, they both have ME-PC registered on their profiles. You know what that means? It means they OWN the game, legally. Why would they want to crack it? You play without the DVD so as long as you have a legit serial, no fix or crack is needed. Ergo; the galaxy map issues are REAL.

I downloaded reloaded version and I can't even install the game
it start to extract data from data01.rar and then just stop without any message, sometimes at 4%, sometimes at 15%...
any idea why ?

Same problem here, how i fixed it
Extract all rars manually to that catalog the installer makes.
Reboot PC
Install it again and tell it "YES I WANT TO INSTALL IT AWAY!"
Good to go! =)

There are a few, unrelated, bugs with the legit game -- but they're not in the same league as these. Reminds me of DarkStar One, The Sims 2 and Operation Flashpoint. Something the release groups missed, or didn't know existed, that cripples the cracked game after xx amount of time :-\
Right now the only solution is to wait or buy the legit version.
