Square Enix has just announced that Mobius Final Fantasy will be coming to Steam. Square Enix has only confirmed the game’s Japanese release date (which is next month), so let’s hope that the publisher will also release it in the West.

Mobius Final Fantasy is a F2P RPG that was originally released on iOS and Android devices. The game was initially released in Japan in June 2015, and was released then internationally in August 2016.

In order to celebrate this announcement, Square Enix released the PC trailer for Mobius Final Fantasy that can be viewed below.

And while this isn’t the Final Fantasy game that most PC gamers were looking forward to, it gets us one step closer to it. With almost all Final Fantasy games on Steam, we’re almost certain that it will be matter of time until we see Final Fantasy XV.

its "good" as far as mobile free to play games go. The F2P concept is very open, no need to pay shit to progress. That being said, i dont know why the fuck they would release this on PC.

Obviously to test the waters they can't easily dump their mobile shit on consoles so they try it with pc to cash in there again, mobile f2p games are dead after a week or 2 since people will just move on to the next f2p game having a second platform could help give the games longer legs.

Porting the game to PC probably wasn't that complicated and even if it makes no money, it keeps the name "Final Fantasy" in people's mind. If we talk about it, see the names on the news, it'll help keep the next games (FF14 MMO has a new expansion, FF15 itself) hyped.

Mobius Final Fantasy for PC launches February 3 in the west
Quote:
Final Fantasy mobile game Mobius Final Fantasy will launch for PC via Steam in the west on February 6, Square Enix announced. The PC version originally launched in Japan on Novmeber 1.

The PC version of Mobius Final Fantasy offers full HD (1920×1080) support that tailors to different screen sizes, as well as 60 frames per second and 120 frames per second frame rates, and even 4K resolution support. The content of the game itself does not differ from the mobile version.

To commemorate the PC release, users who install and log into the PC version of Mobius Final Fantasy will have the chance to win a selection of in-game items, including “Ability Tickets,” a “Summon Ticket,” and more. Prizes awarded to players will be determined by the number of times the Mobius Final Fantasy PC Global Release Campaign webpage is shared and liked on social media through a “Share” button on the page.

On February 7, a special collaboration event with the upcoming Final Fantasy VII Remake will begin. The collaboration will see Cloud, the Guard Scorpion, and the Mako Reactor set up to fit within the world of Mobius Final Fantasy.

In a Square Enix blog interview, project leader Naoki Hamaguchi said he would like to do a Final Fantasy XV collaboration “in some way or another in the future,” as well as collaborate with other Final Fantasy titles.

That's one way to fish for popularity I guess.

As for the game, overall the current user score seems somewhat "meh" but I have no idea what this is, being mobile though I'd expect a lot of reliance on some in-game cash shop.

(Most of it is in Japanese but the screenshots show off a bit of the game. - https://steamcommunity.com/app/504730/screenshots/ or at least the female characters in the game... Razz )

It's jap Gacha crap it has a decent budget for a mobile title but the story is total crap, gameplay is just grind, grind, grind and after a certain point you have to pay to advance oh and the combat system is lifted from FFXIII, tbh i rather invest my money in real online gambling then this crap at least i have a tiny chance there to get something back...

Heh I see, well at least it's not a complete downer I suppose like say ending up as a pachinko game like what people initially expected when that remade Metal Gear Solid 3 video popped up and then a arcade machine appeared partway through the video. Razz

Bit off-topic but I'd wager that would have made them quite a bit of money if they had managed to nail a remake of MGS3 for a new generation of hardware though if that could be done without Kojima is up to speculation and who knows what parts of the game they might have ended up adjusting or removing...though I suppose that goes for most any remake these days.

EDIT: Oh yeah wasn't there something with the original Tales game and turning it into some free mobile version (With a official English translation at last?) but you were almost required to spend actual money and when that failed they simply ended support for the game by updating it so it could no longer be launched at all..
