I have the reloaded version of mass effect.

Now i can play on my native resolution (1680x1050) and the graphics defaults are on high, but yet after a short amount of time when the game is open it just freezes and a crash dialog comes up.

I have even loaded a save file somebody posted and i was able to walk around and do everything but after awhile of walking the game just crashes.

Sometimes its the same one and sometimes it isn't.

Here is a picture of one of the errors (click to enlarge)

My specs are
AMD Athlon 6400+ Black Edition
2gb of ram
Evga 8800 GT superclocked
Windows XP + service pack 3

Here is a capture of my DxDiag.

I have the newest beta drivers for my graphics card, and everything.

Any and all help with be appreciated!

The 8800GT has known issues at the moment, specifically with crashing and hanging the machine too. It's known by the devs (check out the MassEffect PC forum over on Bioware's site) and they're working on it.

Bully for you. Just because you haven't had issues, doesn't mean they don't exist.

8800GT owner here too, no crashes whatsoever. @UP: Try lowering your resolution or running the game in windowed mode as a temporary solution.

Only handful of people have these issues, and I think it's not the 8800s fault. I have my doubts after reading the official forums (even with the statement that devs are looking into it).

8800s are known to be rather effective heaters. When it overheats it reboots Yer system to stop itself from melting. Try rivatuner/speeding up the fan. Should help me thinks. I have 8800 too and it never ever rebooted me system.

I too have an 8800 (GTX) and with Rivatuner running my fan at 100 percent all of the time I have never once experienced heat related resets, nor slowdowns afaik.

the GT cards are known for having a poor fan speed, it doesnt go high enough even if the card starts to get somewhat hot, best to do is to get Rivatuner and set the fanspeed to like 60% all the time or whatever so that u wont hear the noise and it should help otherwise i dont know.

Better yet, change the crappy stock-cooling and go for something good. I've put a Zalman VF1000Cu on mine and the temps are ranging from 40c (idle) to 55c (max). And it's very silent as well. You also get a fan-controller with a long cable so you can change the speed of the fan manually. Rivatuner is a must for any serious Geforce owner. Wink

And as someone else said, modern Geforce cards (8x00-9x00) never crash the PC, they get reset by the driver if something goes wrong (like overheating, crashing. Symptoms: picture freezes, goes black, and then the game continues).

For me it's not heating, its on the same places ingame. When I lower the res from 1680x1050 to like 1280x1040 it doesn't happen. I checked my heat on my 8800 ultra and it stays around 75 and it's not going high at all.

Seems to be related to wide screen resolutions. The complaints I've seen have all been with WS res.

Indeed, i play @ 1280x1024, no trouble at all (with 8800GTS), and ive heard from my mate that it tends to freeze up at 1680x1050. Just play with normal 4:3 res until the patch is out.

@SWEBARB : 8x00 serie have fans set at 60%, stock setting. I play with 75% and it keeps around 70 degrees in ME.
