Quote:
Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels director Guy Ritchie will write and direct a reworking of super sleuth Sherlock Holmes, according to reports.

The film will take its cues from a new comic which gives a modern take on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle character, The Hollywood Reporter says.

The new Sherlock Holmes will be less stuffy and more adventurous than previous screen incarnations, it adds.

Another classic falls victim to the 'revisitation' disease going through movie-land. Sad And although there have been several versions and adaptations of Holmes before, I fear to think what this Guy's take on the him is going to look like. However, for fans like myself, there can never be a better 'Holmes' than Jeremy Brett who really made the character his own.Smile You could say that his own life mirrored (to some extent) his greatest role.

PS: I heard Jake Gyllenhaal is slated to play Holmes. Razz

Young Sherlock Holmes! Sheeesh!

Everything has to be dumbed-down, pepped-up for audiences today. I am sure this movie will have more explosions, more digital effects, some random trollop and even more 'action'. Just sad. Sad

And you've obviously never read a Sherlock Holmes short/long story. It's never about action and guns and swag which Guy Ritchie seems to like putting in his films. I am not being a purist who screams murder if even one detail in the book is changed in the movie/series. I even enjoyed the Nicholas Meyer pastiche, 'The seven percent solution' because it was a very well-written and entirely plausible in Holmes' world. But what they are probably going to do here is not any literary licence but pandering to popular demand.
