Yes I know I can go to the Bethesda forums and browse thru them, but they tend to be full of fan boys and I expect a much more objective view from you lot Smile

Ive just started playing this again and have realised how many improvements are drastically needed on the game so I need some pointers to good mods

First of all the Inventory/quest/map 'thing' this is a bloody joke it really looks like it was thrown together as an after thought. So does anyone know of a decent mod that fixes this shambles? makes it actually workable and pleasent to work with?

Secondly house mods, which is best?

Thirdly.. well I cannot really think of a third as the inventory is my biggest gripe, but if anyone can suggest some ones that are a must please post

Oh and any links to good mod sites you may have used.. yes i know im being lazy but there ya go..

Thanks

oh some time ago i tried to mod my oblivion.. now my game dir is like 15 gb- i had a headache from all the possible mods- wondering what to choose Smile

for the map i use elven map redux- colored version

for the inventory- wz inventory (with dark UI) - it pretty much a grid based bag type inventory- (like in diablo )

i can give you some mod sites- most of the things there are rated so you can pick easy, but still there are tons of stuff- especially for houses & items..

www.tesnexus.com
requires a registration but it's worth it.. and it's the best mod resource site on oblivion..

there is www.planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com
as well...

http://devnull.devakm.googlepages.com/
this is a GREAT help if you plan to drastically change the overall feel- it's a page with recommendations mods in dependence of what do you plan to change..

well i could make a list of the mods i use.. but most of them are from the devnull site above and tesnexus, and it depends -what are you looking for- the first think i did was to use high quality textures , distance view and such, face skins - so basically my 8800 gts 320 shutters quite a lot with all the high res things i put Smile

If I'd have to pick just one mod to install, it'd be Oscuro's Oblivion Overhaul (or OOO). Google for details, it changes and adds so much I don't remember even half of it anymore.

Actually, FCOM changes much more because it's like a meta-meta-mod, you can include OOO, Mart. Monster Mod, Warcry and so much more. It's like a new game.

A few lists to some popular mods such as quests and replacers, might also be a good idea to check larger sites like TESNexus and PlanetElderScrolls. Smile

EDIT: I would also recommend Morroblivion, quite cool seeing Vvardenfell (Center island of the Morrowind province.) recreated.

(Albeit this specific screen is from the Tribunal part and shows Mournhold, main city of Morrowind.)

Thanks for all the fantastic replies, got loads to look through

As I said my biggest gripe is the inventory/quest log/map screen, its just bloody awful. I have tried a few mods and they certainly improve upon it but (and i dont know if this is even possible?) is there a mod that actually seperates the map/inventory/quest log into different components? ie: able to open the inventory and its just be the inventory displayed? none of those annoying tabs?

Cheers lads and keep the reccomendations coming

Here is a list of the best mods to date :

http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Must_Have_Mods

I personally use OOO , texture . leveling and companion share and recruit mods. Deadly reflexe is cool as well as you can decapitate people in slow motion but i found it a bit buggy and slugigish.

Bump di bump
My turn to play oblivion. I don't like level-scaling and respawning very much. So could any one recommend a mod which disables level-scaling and turns down respawning a lot. My computer sucks so please no hardware intensive mods.
Thanks Smile

OOO is pretty much self-contained and complex, so it prolly won't work with other mods. The same goes for Francesco's. Here's the link to OOO: http://devnull.sweetdanger.net/OOO/OOO_Guide.html#top

Right-click on File, Uncheck Load Times, run BOSS again.

If it doesn't work, right click on each red mod, File - Redate.

You need it for leveled lists, for example - without it, if two mods alter same things (item stats, npc loot tables etc.) the mod that loads last will 'win' and the earlier mod's alteration will be effectively eliminated.

You could check the Imperial City vendors - there should be at least something new there. IIRC tho most of the completely new items in FCOM are in hard-to-reach places; you could try spawning some items via the console (use program like TES4Edit to get the item id's), or just toggle collision off and ghost through some dungeon to see if there's something new.

One location that's easy to reach is the dungeon just across the water from where you first exit the tutorial area sewer. When I first played FCOM I went there right away, not knowing any better and ended up just running and dodging all enemies, and by pure chance managed to grab some staff worth 4k. Terrifying experience but the money from the staff helped a lot starting out. Very Happy
