LIMBO OF THE LOST

Quote:
To a certain extent, copying in this industry is inevitable. It's a creative industry, built on ideas, and ideas are mostly built on ideas you like that other people had. A nicer way to describe it is the "creative process". But straight-up stealing assets? To the point where almost your entire game - architecture, UI, the works - is built upon other people's work? Less accepted. PC adventure title Limbo Of The Lost, by Majestic Studios - a real, commercial title (hence the legal issues) stands accused of just this, with an original discovery that some locations in Limbo looked awfully familiar to those found in Oblivion leading to discoveries of other parts of the game lifted straight from Morrowind, Silent Hill and Thief, just to name a few. Needless to say, Bethesda's lawyers are now involved. Tri Synergy - the US publishers of the title - have also told us they've "discontinued distribution" of the game, didn't know about the similarities, and are "just as shocked as everyone else" following the revelations.

check this thread out

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=310683 lol lol

and the trailers

http://www.gametrailers.com/player/28891.html
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/28891.html

It s really fucked up beyond recognition that people actually steal from nearly every great game in existance and get it published. I mean, doesnt anybody in the publishing-companies actually play the crap they release anymore??? Shocked Confused

I m not saying that i dont understand the developers (three middle-aged guys) who wanted to take some short-cuts because it would have taken em too many man-hours to actually make it themselves. But sheesh, wtf?

edit: the thread-title should have been ...[despicable piracy] but part of it got humped into oblivion Laughing

Saw this on RPS; http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/?p=1903

At the moment I've only given a passing glance as to what's transpired but I'm finding it utterly hilarious. Reading the comments doesn't help.

Why? Shouldnt one need to pay for all the games that were wrapped up to get this? Laughing

had to quote this part:
interview wrote:
Gordon: So have any more recent games influenced your current project?
Steve: The project is more influenced by film and literature rather than other games, we want the experience to be as original as possible and as such we have made a calculated effort to keep away from other games in the genre. Limbo of the Lost is an experience first and foremost, secondly wrapped up in a game media and genre.

This is more than amazing, it appears they took screenshots from 3d games and used it as adventure game backgrounds.

What they need to do and fast is confess that they copied the other games and call it a parody. As there are slight differences and since parody's are 100% legal they can't be touched in court. But they may already be fucked because they denied copying already.

They should make a list of featured games and then ask money to said producers, after all this is great advertising!

Here's the emails of the shithouse "lead developer"
sbovis@amethystgroup-uk.com
and
-sbovis@blueyonder.co.uk

Oh, and here's his posts on the game's engine website -

He blatantly knows jack-shit about programming to say the least, see for yourself.

stumbled upon this one....

http://www.kentmessenger.co.uk/paper/default.asp?article_id=9644&slide_id=1&

plus the game is apparently truely real:
http://www.gameboomers.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=233736&fpart=5

the making of:

dunno, even though the game is apparantly real, theres something really fishy going on there. The more I'm reading about this, the more I look at the trailers and the making of, the whole affair is actually creeping me out a little, its just not right.

http://forum.dead-code.org/index.php?action=profile;u=157
check his post count... he stopped on 404. And check out the header of those forums... "make your own oblivion/thief3 etc.". The 2 games that were first identified as being plagiarized.

Maybe I should get some sleep, I'm starting to feel a bit paranoid. This thing is growing way too much on me...
