Civitas

  • Kickstarter: Civitas - Plan, develop, and manage the city of your dreams!
  • Developer: Brandon Smith
  • Genre: City-building game
  • Story/Description:
    Quote:
Establish the perfect city! Terraform the land, plan your city & develop it. Moddable, community driven, DRM free, Single/Multi Player!

Civitas will be a revolutionary, open ended, community driven, highly moddable city building game, where you are not only responsible for terraforming the land, zoning, and building the structures, but you will also be able to manage many other aspects of your civilization. Civitas can either be played as a single player game, or you can play online with other city builders to make entire regions, share resources, and compete for citizens to build the largest city. We will not limit you to one or the other, both will be full featured and complete. Feel free to play it whenever, wherever, and however you want. Civitas will be available for Mac and PC through various digital download services.

I'll be honest: I had my doubts when I posted it due to the lack of website and so on, which is one of the points of the comment on reddit, and after reading the said comment it does looks suspicious to say the least.

Anyway, let's see how this story ends.

Hopefully its not a scam, I would very much like such a game.

I'm actually trying to find a transport tycoon like game to play atm, but there doesn't seem to be anyone sticking out, only a handful of meh clones.

i also think this is a scam. The few screens are easily done and rather cheap. If it looks like a cheat, smells like a cheat, looks like a cheat ... it most likely IS a cheat.

Yep, graphicwise it looks pretty bad and boring too.
Even if it as pre-alpha, the models/textures don't look, like they were chosen/made with "love". If you know what i mean

You can easily create something like this on 2-3 hours when you know what you're doing. The houses are ripped off 1:1 from the web, and the textures of the grass etc too. Probably a scam indeed.

yeah thats what i mean. Its just a couple screens of some buildings, everybody with almost no knowledge, can make in some basic paint app (heck, you can do them in MS Paint rofl).

Its obviously a scam that tries to cash in on the simcity disaster.

at least he connected his facebook to kickstarter now Smile Still, i think its a bad move, trying to profit from the simcity disaster. Even IF its legit, and it might be, it just raises too many eyebrows, then anything else.

sent a message to brandon smith on facebook :

hey, just my 2 cents. I saw your kickstarter project and , like many others, it raised some red flags. I'd really like to have a simcity "like" game, indy or else, but you simply chose the worst moment to launch it. Lets assume, your project is legit (which i hope), the fact that you launched it, during the simcity disaster (and activily use that for promotion) was just a bad move. It simply looks like someone who tries to cash in, on EA's fuck up. If i was you, i'd cancel your current kickstarter and relaunch in 6 months or so. With more to show, except some, sorry to say, cheap looking paint pics of some buildings. If you do that, doing a kickstarter in a couple months with proper material to show, i'll gladly invest. But for this one, i (and anyone i know) simply wont. Good luck either way Smile )

So they cancelled the kickstarter, seems they got private funding.

Of course at this time it's really hard to say whether they actually DO have something, or just backed out of it knowing they couldn't deliver. No money lost, so it's not really a problem for backers (even if some of them seem to be a bit pissed ;D )
