|
 |
http://kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/call-of-duty-5-heading-for-the-pacific-331754.php
Code: | Someone who is more than close enough to know such things has tipped us off over the weekend that, yes, Treyarch are indeed hard at work on Call of Duty 5. And that, yes, the series is heading back to World War II. That's the stuff we'd heard already. What we didn't know is that, according to this tipster, the game's set in the under-utilized Pacific theater, something only one major WWII shooter - the awful Medal of Honour: Pacific Assault - has tried before. While (if true) the move back to well-worn WWII is mostly disappointing, if this game can branch out and explore some of the less "popular" aspects of the conflict (China, Burma, New Guinea), it might not be so bad.
As soon as we know more, so will you. |
I don't know if that's sad or what. COD4 seems to be doing well so I'm not sure why they'd move back into that era. Look at Airborne and Pacific Assault. Two games w/ promised that crashed and burned.
They should take COD4 to the next level w/ tanks, planes, better VOIP, etc.

Read this before commenting on the return to WW2 genre, numbnuts.

As Kaiko already pointed out, this is not IW but Treyarch which create solely console only titles... Some rumors says that IW is currently working on an expansion to Modern Warfare but we'll see.

Well they provided the best cod game and for me the best modern time fps.If they go back it would be the stupidest move in the gaming industry and we have seen some really bad ones.Gameplay and the cinematic feeling is the strongest points of the cod series.I am sure that even in the pacific the game would draw me in but i would be missing the envireonment that feels like it's something happening right now. It's a very strong point.

Yeah, I wonder why not many Vietnam games have shown during the years... Only here and there, some mediocre games.

Why not a World War 1 shooter? Each mission you could try to capture another inch of territory, it would be awesome.

Although...the TV series "The Pacific" will be aired next year...I wonder...I bet ya that theater is gonna get in to Fashion after that series, like Private Ryan and Band of Brothers did for Normandy etc. It might not be a bad move in terms of Marketing to launch a game set in the PTO...But then again, it might just be a rumour.

Ah Crap...and COD5, scheduled for when?...I am only hypothesising here...but who knows
Vodka-Redbull wrote: | I kinda liked MOHPA. Anyone else? |
Yea, same here. Not a bad shooter at all. One might have to be in to the WWII thang maybe to like it, but...
Anyhow, back to the theory about COD5 being set in the PTO. If you check your history books, you will find that you had ALL! kind of action, Jungle, City/Urban (HUGE! Battle at Okinawa, It was the largest sea-land-air battle in history, running from April through June, 1945) etc etc. So there is surely no lack of a good story line there.

Tell me one thing. (I allready know that, but you to say it)
Is Call of Duty 5 going into WW2 again? I am not talking IW CoD and Treyarch CoD... I am just asking if the game, which is called Call of Duty 5 is going to be set in WW2.
So, please, stop pretending that you are smarter than I am. Maybe you do have more posts, but that doesn't mean that I am not smart or informed as you are.

Because the vietnam war was a disaster for the Americans and since these games are made with them in mind, you'll find few publishers/developers who want to dredge that up.
As it was pointed out by some pundits World War 2 was the last big war in which their was a very clear us against them, good against evil scenario. So they tend to focus on that.
Though really the Korean war was had a lot of support and you could argue that it was very clearly defined good against evil. however the Americans didn't win that one, so they probably try to ignore it.

i wasnt actually talking about you, no point in taking everything so personally. and yes, Call of Duty 5 (BY TREYARCH, and therefore sub par in my opinion) is a WW2 setting (whoopdifuckingdoo).

Besides, even then you fight as an american of course. Also games (like Vietcong) are about "how the goooood americans kill baaaaad vietnamese who invaded...uh...well...um...who defend their country and they DO NOT harm women, children and innocent villagers". Not to mention that there aren't too many games with the Vietnam theme.
Besides Vietcong (the FIRST one!)...maybe Lost Patrol and Seal Team (those were both awesome).
