Most games I play run at around 40-60 fps. Obviously the ones that run at 60fps are not a problem, however, is there a way to lock certain games to 30fps, even if they can get more?

Forced Vsync for all applications , you can set it in your drivers

vsync locks the fps to your monitors refresh rate. dont think i have ever heard of a monitor using 30 hz. I'm betting 60hz is the lowest you can get it. but anything below 100hz hurts my eyes Smile

some games allow you to use console commands to lock the fps. you might be able to find a console command for the games you want to lock the fps for.

VSync tries to run at monitor refresh rate, but if it doesn't succeed, it tries at the next division by two (60/2 = 30) and so on.

ofcourse you can create a faux monitor driver that allows 1hz if you really want to Wink
with lcds you only need to worry about refresh rates if you connect through vga
and the refresh rates that the monitor chip actually supports
most function natively at 60hz, while some run at ~75hz
they usually support conversion between anything between the two, but i haven't heard anyone running one below that
could be fun to try just for the silliness of it

i see the value of it, esp for racing games - I think a rock solid 30fps would be better than a changing frame rate - not sure how to achieve it tho

Hmm, Some games have an fps cap that you can activate, but not many Imho. I myself would like to see some kind of app that can cap the fps at 60, that way I can pretty much eliminate screen tearing without having to use Vsync (did it with Mass Effect, and it worked great).

Now, if only an app like Nhance or similliar could get an option that can be enabled for all games, I would be really happy. Smile

I allways thought the sole purpose of Vsync was to eliminate screen tearing. Why would you want another app that does the same thing?

i7 3770k, GTX980, 16GB Ram, SSD Raid0, Internet 3rd world shit not worth mentioning
