|

for any X264 videos be it MKV container or whatever, next to the already supported UVD support from powerdvd for bluray.
http://forums.boxtorrents.com/index.php?topic=10948.0
Its about using a new beta version of media player classic home theatre edition ( make sure to uninstall CCCP and old MPC so codecs dont conflict) along with a codec that uses DX to hardware decode X264
It didnt work well for me, 1080p videos (i guess cause of the profile use are still software decoded meaning 33% CPU usage) 720p does get supported as my CPU only uses 4%, but the picture is slightly stuttering....
UVD looks really good on paper, but why is it so shitty supported? Im in the middle of planning to build a HTPC and it will for 95% play X264 MKV encoded rips, be it HD or DVD rips, unless BD ROM players get a bit cheaper.
Having UVD support i could save on the CPU, but when i see that a 50 euro AMD 2400 BE which uses like 45watt maximum goes to about 90% CPU usage when playing 1080p... i figure a slight overclock will make any possible slowdowns non existant.
EDIT : Any tutorials out for using Powerdvd codec with MPC ? since i dont see any cyberlink x264 codecs in the MPC list of external codecs.

Wait so it works for you ???? i dont feel like fucking with installing uninstalling codecs and programms again.... but i guess you simply followed these steps ?
Did you have any special codec packs like CCCP or MPC installed before?
Im not against Core AVC, it does need less CPU power, so for ppl with really old computers or laptops it can be good, but FFDSHOW ( that comes with CCCP ) is better quality wise and my computer can handle it, but the UVD would make it possible to simply go for the cheapest and less powersucking CPU there was for AM2 mobo without worrying about performance.
EDIT: To clarify what doesnt work with me is that for example with a 720P encoded with a compatible profile sound goes fine , picture goes fine for 3 seconds than goes to like.... 12fps instead 24 fps for 5 seconds... then it goes smooth again, and i really dont feel like testing hours for something like this, and usually when i cant find the issue ppl on forums cant either so i dunno if i should post this on doom9.
Also about sound going straight to receiver... my HTPC will have optical out onboard, as long as it has that i dont have anythign to worry right ? no matter if its DTS ACC DD...
Right now i have my FFShow set to make the sound go through SDPIF or whatever the spelling is, same for powerdvd, this is so sound gets decoded by my audigy right ?

it does altho i got only sample of 1080p and Flawless in 1080p both consume only 7% cpu
after testing about 20+ 720p hd rips i got some jittering in couple of them, so i assume i have to use core avc with them
edit: had to disable DXVA to avoid any glitches then of course it's using 50-60% cpu but that does not bother me at all

Just tried the POWERDVD8 ultra H264 decoded in MPC, saw it in filter section being used and not ffdshow.... some rips wouldnt work , but if they did it basicly had the same CPU usage which tells me its software too.....
EDit : I read cyberlink added protection so it cant be used outside of their own programms aka disabling hardware accelleration
Second Edit : This might be interesting to you Mort, i got UVD to work without the stuttering, also disabble both directvob filters and the AC3 filter, i dont know if going without these filters is worth going for but hell i wanted to at least how it works.

i tried powerdvd8 264 decoder with mpc and with kmp it worked same as mpc hc using practically no cpu 3-7% but there is same compatibility issues with some rips that i had with mpc hc, so i'm kinda stuck with core avc for now coz it doesn't have any issues at all and 1.7 version gives pretty decent quality
