That's what you get for putting unoptimized games on the street.

Hey guys, show a little respect.
Troika was one of the last developers that had as much creative freedom as they did. And while Bloodlines may have been unoptimized, and a bit raw if you will, they still had the balls to do what they did, rather than conforming to the same fucking standards every other developer does now'a'days.
Sure, they were under the eyes of Activision, but they still took the game in what direction THEY felt was right, fuck Activision, and I respect them for that.
I wish those guys the best of luck, although its unlikely they will have the freedom they once did again when under the employment of another developer.
Long live game dev freedom!!
(Yes, I was listening to Hanz Zimmermans Crimson Tide theme while I wrote this, damn that guy is good).
I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Yay for rumours! So first they want to buy the Fallout3-license, and then they call it the quits? I higly doubt it.
I however think they're downsizing, since they, while making Bloodlines had to take in a lot of extra people, this is probably only the selling of extra equipment that they didn't need.
Yes, yes I'm back.
Somewhat.

Troika games alwasy had excellent immersive Stories and lot's of freedom of choice. I always enjoyed them.
On the downside their games alwas extremel buggy. Sure, almoste every game has a few bugs and I don't have a problem with that, but with Troika it was more than just a few bugs. It shows a complete lack of testing.
The worst thing is that they don't even patch them properly. There have been quite a few games (including Vampire Bloodlines) wher troika did not releas a patch untill finally a few fans sat down and created a patch on their own.
IMHO this is unacceptable.
Yes, bugs happen but then you patch them. Waiting for the customers to do it themselves is not ok.
If you aske me, troika should heve kept their story writers, fired their programmers and hired programmers who can actually do their job... and they should hev done this years ago.
If the rumor is true, i am sad that this happend because I always ebnjoyed their games but it doesn't come as a surprise to me.

I'll miss Troika. They were one of the better developers when it came to taking chances and coming up with interesting characters and storylines. The thing I won't miss are the numerous bugs that appeared with every Troika game. I think it was even worse with bloodlines, because they had ages to work on the game after the HL2 release delay, and yet it still shipped with numerous bugs. As mentioned earlier, when your fans are the ones patching your games, something is wrong. Great ideas, bad execution.

What would be really cool is if the three main men from Troika (who were behind the first two Fallout games) were to move to Bethseda and steer the Fallout 3 game in the right direction. Even the most rabid Fallout fan (visit the NMA or DAC forums to see just how rabid they are:D ) would say this is a 'good thing'

I can only speak for myself, when i worked at EA there was a lot of stress and preassure to meet deadlines, in some cases whole lvls or maps where even stripped from the games a week before going gold . There is also some bugs that cant be fixed in time that are not rated as high as other bugs and they are just left in the game, EA calls those bugs: As designed! those bugs are usually weapons spawning in mid air and minor stuff like that, There are also bugs that are called showstopers, and these offcourse are the most serious ones. For instance on one of the games i worked on there was no way of finishing the map and we had to blow the big showstoper-horn one week prior to going gold, this bug was resolved by ripping the first level from the game and start it on the second map. I myself think thats sad, because you miss a lot of god gameplay that way. Instead i think you should push the deadline, a lot of people that has not been involved in the industry doesent know that som games out there today actually was better while in production than when they were released.
Maybe some thay there will be a directors cut version with the levels that were cut out is fixed and put back in the game. that would offer a couple of hours more gameplay in a lot of games.

Too bad... That means Bloodlines will never be officialy patched. Good they managed to fix some most serious bugs. I'll also miss Troika, because they were one of the few companies who made crpg with good story. Do you think they died because I downloaded Bloodlines?

Bloodlines was officially patched, 2 times in fact. The patches fix the most major bugs.
