Went to Cologne (Köln) today with the Mrs, she wanted to see the famous Cathedral (Dom) and I wanted to see an exhibition in the Roman/Germanic Museum about Akhenaten (Tutankhamun's Dad).
Anyhow, nice trip and all that but tell me (especially you German guys here) Is it always that many gay/lesbian ppl roaming the streets of Cologne or was it some special gay pride festival or something.
No joke, like every 3rd couple where gay/lesbian that we saw. I am not homophobic and my Mrs sister is lesbian etc, but I was just so surprised that they where so many!.

i think the biggest number of gays in germany in a city would be berlin. Considering the smaller size of cologne, its the next best thing to a gay "hauptstadt" in germany though. A gay friend of mine lives there, and he should know =)

As far as I know Cologne is the gay capitol of germany, like San Francisco is in the USA.

Thanks for the link. I never knew the history behind it before.
Here are a few pictures of the Gay parade where I am from. Quite a few couples from the states come here to take advantage of it. They offer tour packages for it at travel agencies. There are other events too like Gay day at playland, Standley Park gay lunch, there is a Dykes on bikes day parade on Commercial drive (Little Itaily area)

I don't think there are a lot of protesters there.
Like every city tho there has been gay bashing and harassment, even a murder. I don't know why some people just can't let people who aren't hurting anybody live their life.

Wrong Francisco is the gay Mecca. 
Did they have any protester there? Anytime theres some sort of Homosexual event here there are always people yelling nasty things and holding up offensive signs to homosexuals. Its quite sad really. |
If you mean protests in Cologne, no, nothing I could see. I have a feeling that Germany is pretty open minded with stuff like this, hell, even one of Germany's leading politicians has announced/hinted that he is gay.

He goes every year and Ive been going through some tough times recently (and I needed something to take my mind of stuff) and the parade is not just a buncha homosexuals doing fucked up things. Its a buncha of ppl getting together having fun, thats why I went
And incase your wondering, my girlfriend also went with us
And the pride parade isnt just for homosexuals. Its for everyone and a great community event you know? |

You know what stuck me funny about the Parade (its the first one ive been to though) is how many hot straight girls attend.
And the ones I met (well my gf and I met) were really cool. Open minded, beautiful etc

I went to a gay parade with my mate last year when we were drunk. For jokes he held my hand. For jokes I smashed his nose. I got nothing against gay people. I just really really really don't like them. I don't care who they are, what they do... etc etc etc etc... but seriously gays can't have kids (it won't work ). And that to me is a big problem. You may like to suck another mans dick and you may love eating out another girl... but seriously... if you choose that over not being able to have kids... something is fucking wrong with you. I know a lot of good decent hearted gay folks. They're cool. But seriously. Them being all about freedom of speech and shit sickens me. You are gay and proud. Fine. Don't rub it in though.
It's sick. I'm not a homophobe. I'm good friends with a couple gays. And that's that.
Adoption for gay people is stupid. Say it i hate gays this and that. Some people can't have kids. BUt some people choose not to have kids.  And cause of that they're meant to be honoured? Cause they got guts to come out? Fuck. If you're gay either be bi or be asexual.
I really cannot respect a person who chooses their own pleasure and rights over having kids or over supplying the world with people. That to me is selfish. They may be 'heros' for coming out at this day and age where it's easy to be hated... but ffs... if yah, cause of that... a lot more people are coming out... and it's lot more common to run into a lesbian or a gay guy that shit is scary. I want my kids to have play dates and shit.
And lot of people now don't want kids. Fuck is the world coming to? Seriously. Are we so arrogant? it's really really really disgusting. I really cannot respect a person who says that they don't want kids. If you can't have em, fine. If you don't want them, not fine. S'why I can't respect gay people any more. I'll respect bi's a lot. But gays... no.

I don't mind test tube babies. Where gays donate their sperm. I don't care if being gay is said to be genetic thanks to the american media. But as long as we have people being born, i don't care.  If lot of people decide that being gay is hip / hop and cool... then it'll come down to children of men episode. Where there'll be no more kids and no more future. What kind of a life is that?

you make it out, as if gay was a choice. There is nobody asking them if they want to fuck arse or have kids. Many even only realize that they are different after having gone down the marriage & kids road and noticing that it's not for them to travel. So the question isnt asked, but rather an answer is being dropped on them, that some dont even want to hear.
I think gay pride is necessary to make the world aware of the normality of being gay, espcially since its a minority by numbers and any minority will always have the problem of being perceived as "not normal". Also there are thousands of years of heterosexual culture of repression, prejudice and misconceptions about homosexuality and we are just now beginning to understand the biological peculiarities of it to reframe the issues and make sense of it. |

I know sometimes gay isn't a choice. But I know a lot of people who turned gay cause it's something new and this and that. I know some people can't find opposite genders attractive. I admire that. But that shouldn't stop anyone from not wanting to populate this planet. I mean imagine if 3 years from now gay becoems a norm and a majority because of the press and meda. That would cause a lot of bad shit.

yeah, i would have answered something similar. The whole kids-argument also ties in too much with the "unnatural"-reasoning of christians and other gay-bashers.
There are also alot of hetero-sexuals who chose not to procreate. AND the fear that gay may become a fashion and nobody will make kids is also very unrealistic, as homosexuality usually is at a fixed percentage of about 10% and doesnt vary much.
