"Telladar Chronicles: Decline"
"Telladar Chronicles: Decline is a real-time tactical wargame in a fantasy setting, "Telladar Chronicles: Decline". The player will be thrown into the fantasy world of Miere in one of the most tragical moments in the history of the Telladarian Empire - the War of the Seven Nations. He will find himself in the middle of epic battles and tangled intrigues and will guide his heroes through love and hatred, friendship and betrayal, glorious victories and bitter defeats."
Features:
* A rich, original fantasy world, inhabited by numerous races and nations, each with its own history, unique magic and military systems.
* An intriguing story line with many subplots and several different endings
* Original structure of missions, based on several mutually exclusive sub-quests. They are performed simultaneously with the main quest and affect the completion of the whole mission.
* Armies of up to 20000 fully polygonal creatures (infantry, cavalry, various monsters and magicians) clash in epic real-time battles on huge (4 square km) 3D maps.
* Reserves (army total can exceed 20000 cap) can be engaged in action to compensate potential losses or attain tactical advantage.
* Siege, assault and defence of cities and castles using magic and various siege devices (assault ladders, siege towers and artillery, undermining, etc.).
* The player can determine so called tactical groups, composed of one or more units under direct control of a non-player character (AI). These NPCs will rely upon simplified player commands, such as move, advance, hold, guard etc. The player can retake full control over any tactical group at any time.
* Each creature on the battlefield possesses a set of parameters and traits, based on complex RPG-like rules, unprecedented for mass strategy games.
* Heroes and their armies gain experience in the course of the game, thus improving their capabilities on the battlefield. Between missions, the player can compensate for the losses, acquire new units and modify existing ones.
* Original army management allows not only choosing from pre-designed units, but also customizing them with 50+ weapons and 30+ armours and shields. The player can also adjust the number and experience of soldiers in each unit.
* More than 100 spells will help players achieve victory on the battlefield.

Hmm... could be cool. Depends really how far they want to go with their "complex RPG-like rules", could be a balancing nightmare.
On the other hand, if they don't go deep enough, it might come off as a cheap gimmick.
And I like heroes.
Thanks for the heads up, definately worth keeping an eye on.

Watch to the right of the screen during the last 3 seconds as the footmen attack the orcs...pathetic animation...hopefully thats not finalized cause it looks like shit compared to RTW. I'm sorry it looks like shit compared to anything, the orcs just instantly appear dead on the ground...absolutly no transition from alive to dead.
Besides the water reflections it looks about the same in my opinion, my one worry is AI, its dumb as shit in RTW once you get beneath the surface.
Classic RTW scenario...Hey guys lets leave 80 troops in our capitol and take our entire force outside town, the town is gonna revolt but hey who cares...next turn I attack and destroy their capitol...80 troops great defense on your largest and most important town!

The units have a more realistic look to them over RTW, the colors are bolder and more vibrant, and its definitly more appealing to the eye's. The water reflections are very nice, the castle looks good, and hopefully they will have some variety in their towns/castles unlike RTW.
They could use some variations within the units, little changes to some soldiers to help us believe we are commanding a real army here, not as you said an army of clones
As for the motion...or animation rather, they might not have finished it yet, but why they released this movie if its not done is beyond me. That was too pathetic, I doubt they would leave it like that.
It could turn out to be a great game, I was reading some of the interviews on it:
Quote: | there will be various mission types and goals; for example, to defend a bridge until all the allied units cross the river, or to sneak with small force to the besieged enemy city and open the gates for your army. Many of the missions are based on assaulting or defending cities and castles, and this is a tricky thing to do, that's for sure. |
Quote: | There are nearly 30 types of armors, - from padded armor to full plate mail, all of them with racial variations and distinctive looks, and also about 50 weapons - various swords, axes, maces, lances, halberds, spears, pikes etc., plus scores of various shields. |
Quote: | What about vehicles? We are about to bring all the achievements of pseudo-medieval warfare to the battlefield - various scorpions, ballistae, catapults and trebuchets, assault ladders and towers, and even golems. Their importance varied from one mission to another, but when you are assaulting a fortress - don't forget to bring artillery and other stuff to the field. It is difficult to break a magically enhanced stone wall with a puny sword, isn't it? |
Quote: | Have you tried to organize and control over 100 units? It's pretty hard, you know. And here comes friendly AI. You know your lieutenants, you know what to expect from them, and you know what you want them to do. You set "points of interest" using high-level commands, such as "attack", "defend", "beware of", etc. You can set multiple simultaneous commands and mark all of them with a priority (low, medium, high). And your lieutenants will take care of the rest. Even more, they WILL react to situation changes, and WILL make some decisions. But these will be in low to medium priority circumstances, never overriding your high priority orders - the plot can sometimes change this rather surprisingly. |
Quote: | Our goal is to deliver a legendary atmosphere where huge armies led by the epic heroes clash on the battlefield, mighty wizards spread death and destruction with powerful spells, horrible monsters tower over ranks of warriors and all the other things which players want to see in an epic fantasy. Something like battle of Minas-Tirith in Lord of the Rings: Return of the King. |
Just some highlights, theres more:

that's all well and good, but that video i'm 99% sure rflects the way the game will actually play out. no matter what other features this game may, after seeing the awesome animations/movements in RTW, i just can't get myself to play any other inferior RTS.

Oh its not a RTS either, the topic name is a bit misleading, more like a rpg with huge tactical warfare in between from what I've read.
Its more like RTW's half-brother

They are screenshots, it has nothing to do with anyones comp...
The animations are shitty, as I said I hope they are not final cause thats crap, but the colors are much more lifelike then romes.

The graphics in RTW are about on par model wise, but the world looks more rich compared to RTW, its just more colorful. The units also seem to have more depth, maybe theres a bit of bumpmapping in this game that makes them look better, but whatever it is it enhances it over RTW just a bit.

the trailer was an early alpha build folks. it's nothing like what the retail will be like. compare the textures on the screenshots to those in video.

I do prefer the medievil setting compared to the roman setting. So maybe i'll like this game, although battle for middle-earth looks better.

no, they dont... they look sweet to you because they are smooth, 16x AA and AF, if you look at them again you see that the game has no real detail, its just simple graphics hidden behind a bloom curtain. I love the bloom effect, in my opinion every single game should have it, but in that game there is no artistic detail behind it..

The impression I get from the videos is that they are 2D sprites, not 3D models at all, unlike rome:tw
