You should also post a link to the documentary about the American school system. Its shocking...
In kindergarden american kids are just as smart as any other european country, then they get fucked by the school system :\ No wonder why americans try to get their kids into good private schools.
It is pretty fucked up but you all forget one thing that Americans are lazy...school gives FREE books that 90% of students will never open and read them
Teachers wont be able to cover every material and spent 2 weeks on each topic
Only way to get smarter is to read read read and read some more
Listening to teacher for 39 minutes just does not cut it..when most teens just talk or don't even copy notes..and lets not forget that but I'm pretty sure that MOST of EU countries parents/student HAVE TO BUY books since kindergarden...
Students in US get privileged of getting it for free but they are too blind to see it and therefore they just waste it, they just throw it or put gums on it. NO RESPECT for anything. We even get FREE LUNCH and BREAKFEST that in all other countries you have to pay for and students still disrespect it by throwing it at someone or doing whatever with it. I remember when I was in like 3 grade my mom had to pay for lunch in Poland. but food is shit in schools in NY, its all made of fast food and sometimes its not even eatable even meatballs
They don't read newspapers or watch TV News which is crucial to know whats going on around the world and in their own city
but whats even more disturbing that there is only one good newspaper called New York Times which costs 1.25$ and contains A LOT more world news and has very rich vocabulary but people chose Daily News which costs .50$ cents which is aimed for "less intelligent" people
When, I was in my last half of high school, on my economy class, I always got the new york times and rest of my classmates just got daily news and teacher always said that you will get more valuable information from that newspaper but no one cares...and also school provides FREE newspaper.
People have given right to be smart or stupid... I don;t want to sound harsh or racist for that matter but 90% of latinos at my work place cant even speak or read SPANISH, they own native language therefore can't even read english
sorry since when US is an athletic country? They just released national health report or whatever its called that in Missouri state every 1/2 person has obesity...I think New York comes with place 19th that 1/4 person has it but I don't remember it ><
My friend from high school ( we just graduated) got to college and since he runs and is damn good at it, schools pays for everything BUT he needed to get fixed scored on the SAT which is standardized test in order to get that schoolarship
What exactly is so bad about the education/school system in the US? I don't know a lot about it, but I'm curious.
(I'm not saying it isn't bad, I'm genuinely wondering what's so bad about it. Aside from the students, like besthijacker said, though I live in Sweden and most of my classmates all throughout school were the same as you described them.)
People blame it on the teachers mostly, but I think thats all BS. I've been to a number of US schools over the years, public and private, in a variety of districts, some poor and some rich. All of them had high drop out rates and low standardized test scores. The teachers, however, in each case were enthusiastic, well meaning and well educated individuals (a few exceptions, but there wasn't really anyone who I would fire on the spot). The students, on the other hand, were a bunch of bums whose only goal in life seemed to be to emulate 50 cent. They weren't motivated, drank, drugged, and fucked all the time... and quite frankly were just horrible. It seems that the parents are at fault here. Most parents in the US just ignore their children... they go to work, and let the kid fend for himself. Most kids I know go days without speaking to their parents, even though they live in the same house. Children run wild, and then you get the current situation... shitty schools full of shitty students.
My family paid for my lunch the whole time i was in school, as did 95% of other families.
Books were indeed free and issued at the first of the year Name/Date/Number. But, if you returned it with writings or "gums" on it, you were to pay for it, no less than $55 per.
All but a few of my classmates graduated, 2 of them died, others simply just fell off.
Most teachers did a fair job, some were the type that would assign the work and leave you to it, the majority went over the work with us and kept students active in the topic at hand. I would say that 85% of "x" book was covered in depth by the end of the year.
Yes my family paid, some kids go hungry around here and shitty school lunch is the best meal of the day to them. Lying about how much your family makes just to get a free lunch might take away a lunch from somebody who needs it. Your family can afford a new house with a pool, but not a $2 lunch?
