Consider the bills that have to be paid every month. Gas, electric, water, TV license (what a joke) rent (£400 per month for a 2 bedroom house)/ mortgage (which is usually way way more) food for the week/month. This stuff is the basic stuff, the stuff that MUST be paid before you can even think about anything else. On top you have Internet, Phone bill, things like clothing, socialising.
How can companies get away with the following considering that the cost of living is already very high.

It really really gets to me. Is there any way to stop this juggenraut of greed from the top companies. Is there anything consumers can actually do to stop this?
Bills are set to go up again this year. More misery for those closer to the bread line.

welcome to the suck, son.
Get as much electrical appliance in your house as you can.. small electric heaters, instead of turning the gas heating system on. Electric heat cooker etc.. microwave..
All uses far less energy and electricity is cheaper.

Heating via electricity costs more?? That's what I thought, as it takes more energy?

you could even start BURNING those small electric heaters - thats maybe even cheaper...
