How about a discussion about sci fi movies that people think have it close to reality (obviously a perfect match).
Im interested in what you all have to think about this.
And while some may sci fi is just sci fi...science fiction has lead not only to ground breaking technologies on earth, but must be rooted in some kinda fact. No matter what they be.
So please, discuss
PS. Any of those that come out with "aliens arent real, your a fuck idiot" bla bla bla
Stay outta this thread please and thank. Please respect the ideas and opinions of others. Inciting anger isnt going to help discussion or anything of that nature. So any skeptics, stay away from this thread. Not because your wrong, you knows, you may be right. But because some of us truly believe in extraterrestrials and things of that nature

The first person who mentions steampunk will burn in hell.
I think it's pretty much a coin toss(for lack of a better term) when you are talking far in to the future(space stuff like Star Trek and Star Wars etcetera)
I don't think there will be any huge changes in the next 100 years or so when we talk about changing our culture and world dramatically(but you never know, big breakthroughs have happened before by accident)
Soylent Green had for a 70's movie some cool theories on how overpopulation and food shortage will be dealt with in the western world in the future.
There aren't a lot of movies out there dealing with what I think will be some of the international social and economic issues we will be facing in the future, though.
8 out of 10 dentists prefer zipfero to competing brands(fraich3 and Mutantius)!

Uhm, yeah, you didn't do your best with English in that post (you from Canada, ffs), so I'm not sure what you mean.
I think the Firefly series, and to some extent the Serenity movie have the futuristic setting very grounded with reality. Science fiction often mixes some elements of fantasy, hence the "fiction" in "sci-fi", but still, it's always better to be grounded with reality, rather than insane fantasy, like Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate and so on. They are OK, I guess, just not my cup of tea. On the other hand you have series like Battlestar Galactica, which are total fantasy, yet presented in a very realistic manner, aside from the very improbable FTL jumps/drives.
Another well done movie is Contact, which very much realistically depicts a possible first contact with alien life form and technology, and different approaches people take. Very recommended.

Scanner Darkly
Blade Runner
12 monkeys
28 days later
I wanna say alien... and maybe star trek series... but none of that star wars crap.

blade runner and children of men i have to agree with
while the probability of women becoming infertile is highly unlikely, i could see some kinda global event causing it.
And yeah, the whole feel of blade runner is kinda my view on how future humanity could progress

Syco stop the drama. I didn't offend your country, I said as a Canadian with native English you should post in better standards. I only put that because I wasn't sure this was what you meant. I did post a proper post, wasn't trying to troll. But with the shit you wrote me in the PMs, you're making it very hard for me not to.

Nothing. Waldo, and Syco, stop thinking I try to provoke you all or to make you angry or to offend you or to offend your country, Jesus. I only said I wasn't sure if that was what you meant. I even posted on the fucking topic. Now look what you made thread into. Enough.
Oh and yes, again you prove me how decent the VIP section really is, and how jealous I ought be to get in there to be able to have conversations with you all mighty beings.

Jenni used to point out every single minuscule face about everyone's posts, whether typos or grammar. Strange nobody ever gave her shit for it.
The fact is that the title of this thread doesn't make sense.

well yeah... but once you click it and you read it you get it asap. So it's not a big problem.
Yeah.. nobody really gave a fuck.. jenni was the grammar police. Fine one too.
But now... fuck it... it's a forum with people from a shit load of countries where english is their second language. So grammar/spelling/etc are bound to happen. So fuck it.
Anyone can make a mistake. I get mad when i see then instead of than and vice versa and to and too. Ish normal. Fuck. Stop making a fuss about it. Your and you're omfg. And some people use you're instead of your. That really does piss me off. Your instead of you're is ok. But putting the extra effor for you're to write your... is insanity!
Lol! Anyway back on topic.
Escape from LA and NEw york. NY i can see. LA... not so much!
NY would be an awsum scenario though. Well... australia comes to mind. Back in the day. hehehe. But imagine now... holy fuck paranoia eh? We're almost there too. We need a snake plissken tho! Who's up for the job!?

Southland Tales obviously... "This is the Way the World Ends...Not with a Whimper-With a Bang"
Gattaca yes, as for Firefly/Serenity... I doubt planetary colonialism will end that way, but the social structures and everything, especially the predominance of Chinese... it has a grain of truth in it.

hmm Timecop? I think it will be possible in the far future, and I like the idea of time traveling.
Only the problem is that it can get in the wrong hands...
Terminator? The Japanese will make a super intelligent roboter who will evolve, make another roboters and kill us all, damn.

ROBOCOPZ!
Nah but seriously, I can't think of any right now.
Unfortunately Stargate has not had much influence in todays scientist as far as I know, the story is a little bit far fetched and as far as I know they pretty much screwed up how the laws of physics works in that show.
But yeah, i'll post later if I come up with any other movie/show.

the reasons i said the films i did, is because most of the concepts already fit in todays society. Gattaca - identity theft and biometric ids etc. 1984 - we already live in nanny states, how long til they become big brother states. The same concept lies in Brazil, obviously its a twisted vision of the future, but that is Gilliam down to a T.

i was thinking about that you know. Timecop. But i dont see how it could be viable. I mean, we'd have ppl disappearing in mid air (that scene where the guy jumps out the window and van dam goes after her) and stuff like that would be recorded.
Still, other aspects do make sense
