they made it a bit too long to where it started to lose it's appeal but my god, the first minute or so I was in tears.

Bale actually does this for each of his characters where he doesn't just try a different accent but tries to speak in a different way. Personally I think it's a hit and miss thing and it failed miserably in Harsh Times. For Batman he speaks with his mouth only partially open (looks as if he's got marbles in his mouth) and the voice is also much lower.

It's the same in Begins, don't know why he insists on going with that fake voice...  He must have a sore throat for weeks after shooting...
