Hi Guys,

There must be now over 1 million disappointed playstation owners that have bought the 40GB PS3 which does not have PS2 backwards compatibility. It only has full PS1 compatibility.

There are so many great hackers and crackers and general game programmers on these boards and in the scene. With all the stuff they work on in the homebrew world, like trying to get software to run on a wii. I wonder if it's possible these talented people would get together and see if they can write some code to get PS2 emulation running on the 40GB PS3.
Then they could release it to Sony as a firmware update.

I wonder as the PS1 games are compatible if you could use that as a way to boot PS2 games, maybe it ha something to do with the kernels. The laser, i wonder if a special boot disc could be created that does something to say the chip that is playing PS1 games then allow it send data to the SPU and RSX to emulate PS2 games. I really don't know but i am sure others in the scene may be able to do it.

Of course we can't still emulate a PS2 game very well on a PC and PC's are more powerful than a PS3. But i wonder, some people say the PS3 could do it as when you are using all the cell spu's and rsx together it can create extraordinary power through the multi threaded architecture.

I would love to hear your reviews, and if you know anyone in the scene please past this message on, thanks

Isn't EmotionEngine a piece of hardware? Then it cannot be emulated. End of discussion.

I remember that emulator, i tried registering for their forums but it wouldn't work, can any of you register and post this thread in their forums. With their experience they could emulate the hardware of the PS2 for the PS3.

thanks

Unless the PS3 is hacked, all hardware is accessible for the homebrew scene/linux then dream on. Hell it can barely handle decent video-playback when linux is booted because of the lack of hardware resources.

I am not asking for it to be hacked, i just thought that as sony are not listening to their customers, then maybe this pcsx2 team could actually work to make software emulation that could be given to sony to release as a firmware update, it's very possible.

I feel for you, I really do, but... that's life. Sony are screwing their customers and unless you pay for the highest, most expensive, model of PS3 -- there's nothing you can do about it. There are certain PS3s that simply can't play PS2 games.

Any theories why it (PS3) still hasn't been modded? Is this the only console to have taken so long to get modded?

Well, I'm not an expert but in the 360 the console hackers took advantage of the dvd firmware. A big lack in security ! I guess PS3 is more ... bulletproof.

As to thuis thread's content, emulating the PS2 has taken years and it's still far from perfect, even on the PC. It will be impossible in a half-assed linux. Only Sony itself can do it ... "officially".

I just don't know why they haven't, to be honest. MS has backwards compatibility (via software too, no hardware) on all versions of the 360 - I honestly don't get why Sony doesn't do the same thing .. it'd sell a lot more PS3s if people knew they could play their older titles.

I think they care less about console sales and more about game sales. So they don't want people to play the huge collection of PS2 games, while all the shitty PS3 games gather dust on the shelves.

Another theory is that Sony is just a huge company full of retards and beurocrats (sp-fail?) and they can't make a correct decision if their daughter's life depended on it. Look at the PSP and its firmware, they can't even make a better browser (no flash etc) but the homebrew community did it wtf !!! (I mean flash video player and everything else)

And it takes them 2 centuries to release a GPS addon in the US, the list goes on ...

The ps3 blu ray drive firmware probably is encrypted otherwise we would have seen an firmware hack long ago.

PS3 HDD has a "Sony Made" partition format unlike our NTFS, FAT32 etc.. If hackers could get into that we would learn more on what hides inside the PS3 HDD's. It will be unlikely we will see a hacked PS3 in the next year or so unless Sony release one them selfs to boost console sales but who knows.

I like bum.
